hiya everyone,
would anyone on here be able to give me a rough price on geting a new crossmember put on a mk1 gte??? im just trying to work out weather its worth fixing the car or sticking the redtop in a mk1/2 escort ;)
cheers, dave
well ive just bought a new cross member for ?38 and having it fitted for free. obviously if you fit it yourself it will be free fitting aswell then just use rattle cans to spray it

a redtop into an escort? lol
ah, the great un-educated :thumb:
as for the crossmember, most of the cost is in stripping the front end down, even if you cant weld you could keep costs down by taking the rad out, bumper off and cutting your old one off

/\/\ & thats got what to do with a broken crossmember?
Strip the fr end right down & call a mobile auto welder to come around & put the new one in. Seam sealer, primer & paint a plenty. Job done. Put it back together.

any idea how much they charge?
Fitting a Nova front panel inc. crossmember is pis$ easy, I'd never done anything of the sort before, but the anti roll bars basically position everything where you need it. Sorted. Day and a halfs work it took me, thats seam sealing and taking my time TBH

jsut to correct you, they arent antiroll bars that bolt to that pannel, its the TIE BARS. the arb bolts to those.... but its a crap way so the arb should be binned ;)

There's something stopping me from being able to fit a crossmember....
1. A welder
2. The ability to weld
lol
Cheers Stuart, I don't like the tie bar name so I call them those things or ARB's lol
That aint me in the pic BTW
LOL @ Matt, welding's easy!

My brothers just got some sort of welding qualification for his mechanic apprenticeship. He said he'll teach me when he buys a welder.
I wish I'd chosen metal work at school instead of p*ssy wood work.
so calling them a differnt name is good because?..... causes tons of confusion for others lol
I thought when you signed the V5 for a Nova it automatically came with HPI for a mig? lol
Yeah wood is $hit - has no use in this world! (cars) =P
ever driven a morgen?
thats a proper use of wood!
Nah can't say I ever have driven a car with a wooden chassis! lol
Would be interesting though!
When I was younger, there was some ****ty council pre fab housing in my town and they have a metal framework inside them with panels studded to the outside AFAIK, the guy had a Morris Traveller and I used to think he will have a rusty house and wood worm in his car. Made me laugh anyway lol

lol I will be correct from now on! There's enough confusion on here without me adding to it intenionally
a wooden chassis car is a riot to drive, its got its own natural spring to it along with the suspension etc. proper fun to pilot!
and wooden houses kick ass too.
I have a wooden garage lol
I can see how a car like that would feel very good, must have a go in one some time if I get the chance
ive had a welder for a year, i finally put the plug on it yesterday, connected the gas up, ran the wire to the trigger etc
then couldnt find the mask that came with it lol

NO. But while you have the Yellow pages out, could you get a carpenter (local to yourself) to quote for a staircase to be fitted at my gaff.
Silly Q eh? :thumb:
