You will need to open it up really to find out, or fit it to a car an then do some sick wheel spins an see what happens.

If your buying one second hand and its still in the car, jack up one side at the front leaving one wheel on the ground and start up the car put it in first gear and release the clutch iirc the wheel thats in the air will not move indicating it has a LSD.

if the car doesnt have a LSD the wheel in the air just spins freely.

ive been told if its fitted in the car jack it up both wheels off the ground an spin one wheel. if the other spins the same way it has an lsd if it spins opposite its a standard diff, is that true?

erm the lifting one whell off the floor trick ONLY works for plate and pozilock diffs. the run of the mill ATB from quaife wont show up on a test like that...

i dont know if it is true for all lsd's but i know with the rs turbo type if you look in where the cv joint goes then you can see if there is a pin/shaft thing going threw the middle. hard to explain but you would see what i mean if you saw it
