hi all, im in need of flywheel bolts, well the haynes suggest new ones when you take the old ones off.
I've managed to find 1.4 conrod bolts and 2 litre flywheel bolts, but cant find flywheel bolts for my 1.4, do these really need replacing and do the conrod bolts need replacing too? and has anyone got any idea where i can purchase some from (1.4 flywheel bolts)?:thumb:

things like that are usually cheap from vauxhall. and its worth replacin them, for the sake of a few ????, it could mean yaa have a safe engine!

Common misconception i'm afraid, vauxhall is probably the cheapest place you're gonna get these from. Anyone selling you some from elsewhere, has probably purchased them from vauxhall in the first place!
And yes i'd replace them because they're stretch bolts, only designed to be used once. Torque them up correctly with a torque wrench too.

lol yer i got the torque part all sorted, i'll have a nosy upto vauxhall then if no one comes up with cheaper prices, although vauxhall having the cheapest price...well i bought a camhousing thinking it was vauxhall part only, for ?40...ish, only to find some on carparts connection cheaper :(
i looked into getting ARP bolts, but judging from thier price list they dont deal with 1.4 :(
The genuine bolts will be strong enough.
Carparts connection was probably s/hand.
All 1.2,1.3,1.4,1.6 bolts are probably identical

lol for the time being, its got a lyndale race head, decked block and lightened and balanced crank, flyhweel and clutch cover
So, standard bolts will still be fine. you are still not talking mega power.
just look at how small the clutch to flywheel bolts are.
I work with heavy construction plant & it is astounding just how much power & torque can be transmitted through a few small bolts.
one piece of equipment we use has an m8 x 100 8.8grade shear bolt for safety, but it takes 180bhp, 700lbft of torque at 1000rpm & still needs to hit a huge rock to break

oh sorry, i was refering to the conrod bolts when i was talking about the ARP bolts, you'll have to forgive me, i was in work at 6am lol
the bolts on a small block gm engine will not vary from say 1.4 to 1.6, they were made on the same production line, & will have been designed for ease of manufacture. So 1.4 & 1.6 bolts will be identical. so if you can find 1.6gte bolts listed non genuine they will fit. have you tried Arrow?

i would have thought you could use the same bolts again and just put some locktite on them

all of the major engine bolts, ie. head, main bearing, conrod & flywheel will be stretch bolts. It is good practice if you are rebuilding or uprating the engine to fit new ones.

your meant to loctite them anyway lol
to be honest id rather get new flywheel bolts, id only end up thinking about them all the time, with the conrod bolts i dont mind too much if they aint changed straight away as i can just take the sump off and change them, i've got 500 miles before i can abuse the engine anyway lol
Jon-Have you bought a set of these yet? How much were they?
I shall be needing to change mine and want to be prepared for the cost involved,Lol.
You want me to price some for you ad? might get a bit of discount too.
If you dont mind John yeah, (to a X16xe 1.6 16v if there any different) :)
Any news John?
