my mate bought a gsi a few months back with an engine that was slapped together i.e bigger injectors you know the rest, and it has a gsi head, airbox ect but the block is 14se. any way its mine now and i have got it for next to nothing and he claims its been overbored to 1650 and that the waterjacket is better on the 14se's. i thought all the blocks were the same?
please help as i dropped it up the machining shop tonightand asked him to look over it any one done this before?

yes 1.4 engines can be bored out to a 1.6

but why bother? when you use a 1600 to start with? then over bore that to 1650, which imho unless your planning on going "slicker then your average" spec is pointless pretty much as the money can be put elsewhere for far better results

Measure the bore.

Thats around 1.4mm overbore if you want to make sure if yours is just measure one of the pistons that come out of the engine the 1.6 standard piston i think will be around 78.? and the 1.4 77.?

Your better off just getting a 1600 bottom end mate

so you can actually bore the c14se cylinder out to 1.6L i assume you just connect the 1.6 pistons to the 1.4 crank?

No, sorry.
a c14se is 77.6 bore 73.4 stroke
a c16se is 79 bore 81.5 stroke

By the way, I have a pdf copy of a kolbenschmidt piston catalogue with every gm piston listed. pm me if anyone wants a copy

cheers mowgli but im gonna get a 1600 to start with the machining bloke said he could bore it to 1600 and lighten the fly wheel and balance the rest accordingly for 500 so ithought feck that still gotta pay him a small sum for strippin the beast down though! he cleaned it all up and said it looked good and that it would of beena shame to bore it as the bores were spot on.

dan i swapped the engine for some wheels so ill i would need is the price of the machining work its not complete though its an sri engine with a gsi cam cover it had all the bosch air thingy and my mate obviously was blagged but he had a stroke when he sold the shell! i have got another sri minus the head so im sure i could get the fuel rail loom manifold down pipe and standard exhaust from that. the thing is its in my rented garage which i have lost the key its been holding me back for ages as ive got a shed load of parts in there but you could have this engine and everything in the bay of the other plus the exhaust if you need it ( dont think you will as you have aftermarket manifold ?) for ?100

yaeh thats fine it needs to come off the car though so maybe come up and we'll strip it would like to keep one of the block really because its sods law that mine will blow up as soon as i dont have spare engine(s)
