Ok, you older members may remeber i asked bout this sorta stuff a while back, but here we go again, this time i am gonna do the stuff, cos bodywork is done & dusted now :D

Anyways,

1400Sr engine, 115k on the clock, startin from scratch, wot wud b best for power gains?

As far as i can remember it was B+ head, shrick cam & twin 40's?

Well thats all good, but will this affect everyday running?

I mean, what will it be like for starting in the mornings, will there be a massive drop in fuel economy?

Would it be worth adding things like lightened flywheel, performance oil pump, performance head gasket?

I ask this cos when my engine has been high revved for a bit, it seems as if the pump cant supply the top end with oil, and it goes all tappety, which aint nice!

Cheers for any help, soz 4 the long post!

i had that problem with my 1.3, it was a cracked piston ring apparently. Which was evident when the engine was striped.
If u give it greaf for a while at high revs, it sounds real nasty, u haveto let it cool down for a bit.

115k miles? Maybe getting on a bit for serious tuning?
Yes to all your mods but Piper, Kent, Enem all do good cams. (zorst necsessary as well)
Noisy top end? take sump off and check that pick up gauze is clear.
Pump is not likely to be the cause of noisy top end. Std 1's are fine
Lightened flywheel? Debatable- wont give xtra power just faster pickup which isn't a prob. wiv 40's.
Performance head gasket - no need in my experience just use a genuine Vaux 1 and install it properly.
Economy? Wot are you putting 40's on 4?
Cold starting? If set up properly a well tuned engine will start well regardless of how cold.
Day to day running? No probs - carbs once set right ( they are by nature fixed state) don't need constant attention apart from occasionally setting the idle 4 personal preferences
