i've been quoted just over 600 with tesco with my mum - which is fully comp too
need a full uk driving lisence for it though, which i personally still need to get as i was planning on learning in my own car and being insured as a prosisional
www.theinsurancecenter.co.uk are doing a 6 months accelorated no claims, i got a quote there on my own for 750ish for half a year and get 1yrs ncb, but according to tesco's phone peeps thats a load of bollocks and has lots of small print to get them out of it, so maybe worth checking it out, depends if its a pile of haddock :)

Have you thought about getting Pass Plus?
Pass Plus is a basic advanced test, you have to do something like an extra 8 hours of driving (2 hours in wet, 2 hours on motorway, 2 hours on country lanes, 2 hours in dark) with an instructor (most instructors are able to do this) and if you pass (I don't know anyone that failed) some insurance companies give you 10% off your quote.
Other than that I would suggest getting a 1.2 or lower. I really can't understand why you are being quoted so much.

how old are you, because i'm 17 and i got quoted ?1800 for a 1.2i, and ?2500 for a 1.3SR and, what for it, ?3400 for a 1.4SRi, that was on the poeples choice insurance web site, i'm going to try CIS now
(they are the costs for an unmodified car with a cat 1 immob/alarm)
