Barton in the beans is actually about as boring as you can get.

It is also not far from a hamlet called -wait for it- Belchers Bar go east a bit on 1:25000 scale.

I was born within a few miles of there

General, look at this one then, just north of atherstone & west of ratcliffe culey is a really rude place

I'll take your word for it Mowgli, It's been so many years since I lived there I've forgotten a lot of what is round there. The Gate on the 447 wasn't a too bad spot.

very big long link (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&GridE=6.30597&GridN=51.40109&lon=6.30597&lat=51.40109&search_result=****um%2C%20Wachtendonk&keepicon=true&db=DE&lang=&place=****um%2C%20Wachtendonk&pc=&advanced=&client=public&addr2=&overviewmap=&addr3=****um&scale=50000)
I've been there. And yes, I had to stop and take a picture of the sign.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/razorjack/Misc/21022007.jpg

You'll also note, of all the town signs in Germany, this one appears to be the only one we found that was actually welded to the pole. No doubt as us crazy Britishers, for some reason unbeknownst to most of the local Germanic populace, seem to have a desire to keep thieving the sign.

Oh, and we also found this very Gaskell-oriented town, just North of Gutersloh:

The gate is ok, if you like a 'Family Atmosphere' & decoration like Sherlock Holme's Study'

PUBS ON MEMORY LANE:
The Gate Hangs Well at Carlton (good even though I got thrown out for swearing)
The Rising Sun at Shackerstone (Very good but miles from everywhere)
The Hercules at Sutton Cheney (the first pub i was barred from, but very good)
The Cock at Sibson (famous coaching inn and brilliant pint of Bass)

Mate of mine used to live in the row of terraces next to it.

The Gate Hangs Well, I do remember that one.
The Dixie, in Bosworth (Did Bateman's X and B separately on tap)

The Dixie, in Bosworth (Did Bateman's X and B separately on tap)

Now that is a trip down memory lane, When I was in the sixth form at Desford school, we used to race there on wednesday lunchtimes (cos we had activities on wed pm.) I had the use of my gran's nova (1.2merit b reg) & my mate steve had his dad's old opel ascona. he once pushed me down the hill past desford cemetary & round the bottom bend at 90mph. It was a pivotal moment in my life. I found out how to drive REALLY FAST.
I can confirm that the beer there is still good

Nothing really changes, we use to do the same race on a Thursday lol
