engine management light

hey hav an sri an when am drivin along and giv it a bit of fleecn the engine mangement light comes on, is there something you can do to the plug under the bonnet to make the light flas a number of times to get the trouble code?

On the diagnostic plug(in the bay next to wiper motor) you bridge the yellow/brown, white/brown wires, then turn ignition on.
The light will flash the codes out.

kk thanx kinda annoyn and am for selln the car nw and want it sorted, also at times when i go to start it there is no spark and no fuel pump cutting in, but when i give it a push and bump it in 2nd gear everything starts to work then? any ideas? its getting realli bad now, needs a push nearly everytime to go help please asap coz novas were built for the road, not to decorate a garage lol
