i read something recently about a corsa rally car and it was running a c20xe block but an 8v head?? i didnt know this was possible, what advantages does it give over the standard xe and is there much point in doing it?

i read somwhere they could run more torque but didnt reallly understand it myself
probably just a higher compression ratio which will give a mild gain but nothing silly...

the 16v can rev higher and it is stronger that the 8v plus yes the gain of compression chris ashley was using 1.6 16v bottom and 1.6 8v top. ask chris he know more than me
iirc your not alowed to rebore the engines for rally use (rules and regs) and trying to find an 8v bottom end thats not fecked is impossible, so 16v ones are used as they tend to have less bore wear..
some competition classes have rules banning 4valve heads.

The XE bottom end is tougher & probably dynamically balanced (revs better) than the 8v bottom.
You would need to have the XE pistons machined as the CR will be too high.
You can read up on such a project on Tom Sticklands site.
