I just cut an upside down goalpost shape into the bumper and bent the plastic back behind the metal bumper beam.

Use your reg plate as a template and cut the goalpost shape out

306 also has a recess you can hack out. Quad conversions sell a Nova recess for around ?45, or, last time I checked, you can buy their Viper rear bumper (which is essentially a fibreglass smoothed GTE rear) with the recess already fitted.
