No mechanical differences with the engines, unless you compare the later C16 engines, with the DIS system and CAT.

does that mean it could be easier to put carbs on the older one?

Its no different puting carbs on a dis or non dis engine as you still need to convert it to 1.4 REAL dizzy and coil for the ign anyway...

last chance now sweetheart... if you want to have a go, rant at me via pm, dont clutter threads.
Dan had his 1.6 running the fake dizzy setup on his carbs and no matter how far you turned it there was no significant gain. fitted the 1.4 real stuff and gained a stack load.
If J/K-reg GSi's are fitted with catalytic converters, and earlier 1.6's aren't - as all the 1.6 Novas are rated as 100bhp, surely the later engines have a touch more power as the cat would strangle the power output a little...?
Ye, c16s do have a touch more power.
Its just as easy carb both, as the dispak just unbolts off, and you can then fit a dizzy.

very true but thought the cat was 98bhp
