Once its time for you to insure a car we'll see what you do with the engine :)

I'll have the 1.2 in until the insurance people decide i'm a sensible driver, which is the age of 21 or 25 i think...

Depends if you want to DIY.
You can get sri exhaust manifold/downpipe and system.
GTE/Gsi camshaft etc.

vaughanmc

yeah things like that

exhaust mods
induction mods
cam
head
etc..

nothing against you vaug but what is the point od doing a 1.2 injection,i think there the worst nova engine of all, just leave it standard and when you get a 1.6 or something make that quicker,

vaughanmc

Well i want it to have a decent bit of power

One of my friends is getting a 1.4 MK3 Astra - So i would like it to keep up with him.

My dream was always to put Twin 40's on a Nova but you can't really do that with a 1.2

And another thing - Only needs one word " Insurance "

Nova-Dan

why dont you put a 1.2 carb or 1.3 carb in your nova,i know that a 1.3 carb will definatly keep up with a 1.4i,

vaughanmc
16-04-07, 04:08 PM
Because thats more bother than its worth

I plan to keep the 1.2i and do some things to it

Thats the point of this thread -- Not to change the engine!

Nova-Dan

best bet would be change the cam, twin 40 it,performance exhaust full system,

I said there wasn't much point in putting T40's on the 1.2 - Do u not read?

change the head to a 1.2 carb item
Fit a 1.3 inlet manifold and a 32/34 weber.
slip in an AST2 kent cam
GTE exhaust (system)
1.2 coil/dizzy setup

get it all setup right at a good RR. should see you keeping up with the fat assed lardy 1.4 astra lol. best "speed" nod for the 1.2 is to lose weight from the car.

You'll need to tell your insurance company about all these changes anyway.

1.2 carb head, 1.3 inlet, weber 32/34, 270-285deg cam (at a guess) ,4-2-1 exahust manifold and a decat if its got one. :thumb:

Should be up to aroun 70bhp then. Fit the crank and rods from a 1.3 and it becomes a 1.4 at up to around 90bhp.

Remember to tell the insurance though.

yeah i was thinking about like a factory style strip out

put Nova GSi/SRi seats in the front then strip the rest out and mabye put some carpet down to keep it tidy..

see even though the mods are done -- will it not still be a 1.2 at heart kind of thing??

why do they need to know about the mods?

Stuart
16-04-07, 04:23 PM
if you dont tell them about the mods and you crash, they inspect the car and see something non decalred. you get void insurance and ahve to pay out to the 3rd party in full, and get bum raped in court by the police... nice huh ;)

the 1.3 guts into the 1.2 is a really crap idea imho... but hey

NovaLad
16-04-07, 04:27 PM
mmmmmm rape lol

dont mean to be picky

but would they take the engine and that apart to see if it has different carbs and inlet manifolds?

Adam

Fook t40s, a 32/34 will be fine on a 1200, less hassel etc.

Yes

this is going to be a fair packet to insure but should be worth it in the end

Adam

I paid ?1200 insure a 1.2i, aged 18.
Lol

This years is going to be about ?500, for a 1.6 16v converted nova.

The cost soon comes down in a few years..

vaughanmc

So for me to insure mines pretty much standard will be about ?1000/?1500?

Adam

Theres none to be had.
Oh, there is plenty.

Just depends where you draw the line tho.

You could fit a sri injection system/head to a 1200 block, with a decent cam, and exhaust, probably see 70ish bhp.
But is it worthwhile over a std 1.4sr engine(?50)
probably not.

I know you wanted some replies about how to make the power output higher, but have you fitted a suspesnion kit and better brakes etc? I did this to my 1.2 carb (which I need for its economy when driven distance) and its surprising how much ground you can cover in a shorter amount of time than when it was boat-tastic and standard! Its still not a quick car, but thats half the fun, keeping it on the boil all the time and getting the most from a standard 1.2!!!

1.2 carb block, arp rod bolts, 1.6 gte head pref port n polished (try blydenstein engineering b++ head), lairy cam (i.e 300 deg), t40's, f13cr, 2.0 brakes. had this in my k plate saloon, went like stink, rr'd at 98 bhp at 7688rpm, oh and run it on optimax, change the oil every 3000, and it will fly!!!!!!! :)
