gearboxes again!!??

right i dont get this!!! i have a cav deisel turbo box n when i race my m8s gtes n gsis they say after a ton they hav to go into 5th but myne does 114 in 3rd ? i got a digi dash and when i foned my m8 on the motor way his astra clocks were readin a ton at the same point as myne but last night i had my dash readin 149mph flat out down hill in 4th as it slows down in 5th. now i only hav gte lump with cams 1800 injectors fse and a few other things and i dont believe it does 149mph?! but then i hav raced 2l 16v cavys n beat em is this to do with the long ratio box and is the speed on my dash near enuff true? one of my heartwells disaster fit m8s said it was due to the turbo gear box having more torque and sending a false reading? cheers lads!

the box is designed to be on a td engine it is very low geared and on a petrol engine will give stilly top speeds. The nova 15td box gives you 80mph at 3000rpm so at 6000rpm you would be doing 160mph if you have the torque to beat the wind resistance which you don't in 5th

dont know the f numb of hand m8! do u fink i would get better acceleration from a 1.4 close ratio box? and would a 1.4sr box be ok on a gte lump? it shouldnt have 2much strain as when the cams set up it will still only hav 120bhp at the wheels

lol the td box is giving you a massive top end at the expence of accleration

Right, depends on what you want, but for good acceleration, use a GTE F13/CR box (which comes with a 3.7 CWP) and swap the CWP to a 4.1 (from a 1.3SR I think). The F10 and F13 clusters are interchangable as is the CWP

or one from a 1.0 :D nice limiter in 5th at 100mph or one from a swedish post van!!! even lower!!
