I am thinking of fitting a fast road cam into my 1.4 SR,
Its a 270 degree item and i wanna know if i will need a vernier pulley or not ?
Also do i have to lift the head to fit it or is there a way of cheating ?
Cheers

you wont need a pulley i dont think, but probably get more out of the cam with a pulley

cool,
my plans are coming together nicely
You dont "need" a vernier.
You can "cheat" to fit the cam, basically get a valve compressor that lets you remove the rockers without undoing the head, thus letting you remove the cam.

might just be easier to whip it off though wont it ?
i need to fit a thermostat and get my exhaust manifold off anyway and you know the studs are gonna snap lol
no need to get a vernier imho. unless yoru going for a bonkers solid cam

you dont a pully . you can change cam in place with the right tool it should take no more than an hour to change.

what do you mean by the right tool ?
please explain how it can be done cause the car has only just had a headgasket and it seems a shame to pull it to bits again
google draper gm 8v cam tool... should get you the info you need

cheers mate,
How many do i need or do i do it one at a time ?
Just one you need.
Remove one rocker at a time.
It is quite fiddly, but easily possible.
Ive done quite a few with one.

cool cheers mate,
one more thing how does the cam come out of the housing ?
it will slide out of the cam belt end (remember to take the locking plate off at the dizzy end..
the info will be in the haynes manual you have (if youve not got one you need a slap lol)
Aye, remove the dizzy, and the float end plate(two screws)
And slide it out.
