1.3/1.4 sr debate!

lets have it out then, all these people claiming 1.3's are quicker, is bollocks! ive gotta a under the bonnet standard 1.4 sr, and 1 night sum kiddy in a 1.3 wanted to play. so i thought fair enough. Came up to a set of lights on a dual carriageway, sum ink was on inside lane so had to sit behind it. lights went green and the 1.3 was gutless, i was 3 up, and him 2 up, i couldnt believe it off the line it was slow as shit, mid range i had him once the **** pulled over!! then he gave up, i dunno if his is standard or not, but i would take on n e standard 1.3 sr and not be scared of doin it!
Only reason people say it's quicker cause there are more people to back it up, as more people have 1.3's than 1.4s'.

i love the way the nova community is split into 6 distinct groups which are always bickering about who is quickest.
First theres the cheap insurance 1.0 lads who reckon theres are faster than any 1.2
Then its the 1.2 boys who reckon they are faster than any SR coz SR's have obviously been thrashed.
Next comes the 1.3SR clan who reckon they could easily beat any 1.4SR modded or otherwise...
Then come the 1.4SR people who know for a fact that all the afore mentioned are much slower than they are, but secretly reckon that a 1.6 aint that much quicker anyway.
Then its the 1.6's, who are as far as i can tell happy as they are, knowing they go fast, but hoping someday for a 2.0.
Then its the big boys in their big bank busting valvers who just sit at the top of the pile and gloat!!! :D

Quite a fair summing up i think.

when mine had a 1.3 in it, i had a full ex system, 32/34 carb, pipercross filter.
I was always racing 1.4's with k+n and exhsut system. could beat them low end and keep level on the dual carriageway, also my top end was higher.
The condition and setup of the engine makes a big difference!
1.4>----->1.3>------:P

well i got a 1.3sr but its fuckerred so i aint saying anything... i have said my piece already, the bigger the engine in the nova, the faster the car.
SO THE 1.3 WONT BEAT A 1.4 OF EQUAL SPEC!!!

A mate of mine though has an apparently standard 1.4 flair, still with the old banjo airbox and his car is v.quick, I don't pull that much on him when racing off lights, and he'l sit level with my mates chipped 2.2 vectra sri running 165bhp,
I will get him upto santa pod to see what it does, but for now its a mystery as to why its so quick

I got the SRi and had a little play with an GSi nr Brighton, he thought mine was a souped up 1.6 or 1.8 lol. Even the vauxhall speacialist think its quick and as far as I know its standard except for the exhaust and drilled air box. But then they said, every now and again u get ones made exactly on the dot and go really well. Shame the windows are so slow and the doors droppeed lol

If you want performance and efficiency, get a 1.5 Turbo Diesel. They shift, especially on the motorways when the turbo kicks in @ 3000rpm/80mph in 5th, and the low end torque is brilliant at traffic lights. Plus they go for ever. :d

ive been lookin into this recently. b4 i bought my 1.4sr i was told it was the quickest of the bunch. WRONG!!

Out of the factory, the 1.4SRi has the highest top end followed by the 1.4SR then 1.3SR

however 0-60 times go from sri bein the fastest to 1.4sr bein the slowest.

i have been led to believe this is due to the difference between the 1.3sr and 1.4sr heads. 1.3 ones bein designed with power in mind, whereas the 1.4 ones were designed to keep lower emssions, and better fuel economy.

this is all when they were launched.

nowadays, who knows. maybe the 1.4 engine can take abuse more than the 1.3 so their in better shape causin better times....? i honestly couldnt say. havin never raced a 1.3sr or 1.4sri i have nothing to judge it on. :(


thats wot i thought up 2 a few mins ago. but now ive read that every one here seems to think the 1.4 is faster..... i give up!! i thought i had it figured out, but i might be wrong..... :(
