hey everyone, im looking at purchasing a nova rolling shell and making a project out of it, i would like to hear some suggestions about what engine choice would be good.

Bearing in mind i would like a decent amount of power but as i am 17, (18 in september) obviously a C20LET is out of the question for insurance purposes.

So then guys (and girls) any ideas on a decent engine choice for a nova project?

Personally id go for either an SR engine or if funds permit then a GTE/GSi.

SR's are very basic engines and great to work on, plus insurance wont hump you too much.

Which engine originally came with the shell? That might be far cheaper as an insurance option.

I'd say either the 1.3 SR engine if you want to keep it simple, or the C14SE SRi 1.4 engine for more poke with lesser insurance than the 1.6 gte/gsi.

Personally i'd keep it as a 1.3, if you're 17 they'll crucifie you on insurance, especially if it's your first car!

If you're concerned about insurance, then avoid it and get one with an engine already in; bear in mind even if you put the same capacity engine in it'll still be considered an engine swap and up your premium.

That aside, what are you looking for? Something that has a decent amount of power that you can just slot right in, or something you can fettle and squeeze more power from?

as said, for first car and insurance, SR engine at a most! Unless you have money to burn when your insururer rapes you on your premium :thumb:

its not my first car and i will have a years no claims by the time its ready, i intend using my corsa as a run around while i build the nova from the groud up.

i was hoping for something i can tune a little, squeeze a bit more power out of. 16XE may be a bit much for insurance ;)

youll be surprised at how much power you can get from an SR/i engine tho ;)

nowhere near as much as a baby valver, or an XE etc but you can still get a fiar amount

stick with either a 1.3sr or a 1.4sr,, they are pretty nippy standard and there is lots you can do to them! im not changing my engine just yet because if you put a bigger engine in and be a good boy and tell the insurance, the quote will be a lot higher than the normal for that size engine because you have modified the car in such a way! insurance companies dont like that!

i think im gunna go for a 1.3/1.4 SR engine on Twin Weber 40/45's, full rebuild, fast road cam. Should get a fair amount of power (better than my ghey 45BHP from my 1.2i corsa  )
