i don't know if anyone can help me at all but i've got
a prob with my engine.
its a 1.6i nova gte engine, well i floored it while doing a reverse wheel
spin at a fast car show about 3 months ago when leaving after doing this i
lost all power in the engine it started stalling idling really rough at
600rpm
lots of compression going through the exhaust back firing badly
i could'nt even do 90mph on the way home .i thought the head gasket had
gone, Turns out it did when a mate took the engine apart all 4 cylinders
blew over each other, and the thermostat blew.

We changed all the gaskets + cam belt& all the nessercery, looked all good,
then when staring it the problem is worse even though everythings sorted, i
tried changing the throttle position switch its still the same, then tried
a different ECU still the same.

when u open the throttle fully it does'nt rev it only just about idles then
cuts out thats the problem now, my mates a mechanic who sorted out the
gaskets & fitting so he's not a "yee haa cowboy" .He made a call to vauxhall
they said it could be a sensor or something else electrical - someone told
me it could the crank cam position sensor .I AM BAFFLED, CAN any one HELP me
:(

if its a GTE u shouldnt have that cam sensor. well i dont think so anyways.
had a similar prob with mine, the timing was fcking miles out, there is marks on the bottom wheel, and if theres a bit of crap on it, then u might have lined it up on thw wrong 1 (the mechanic at the garage did on mine)
have u done a compression test? jus wondering if a few valves have fecked up?

Dunno if u can get this checked, but try the fuel pressure, that is the only problem iv really had with a GTE engine. it will run 'badly' and keep cutting out, and will have little/no power if u have low fuel pressure (knackered pump/bent pipe/broke regulator)
