sri thermostat question

right ive been running my sri with no thermostat for about 6 weeks since i put the engine in, it seems fine i just let it warm up a wee bit before i drive it, anyway it goes well but if i get stuck in traffic and it heats up to about half way when i get out on the road and give it boot it seems kind of hesitant nearly like its breaking down, then once it cools down its fine again??!! anyone any ideas? i dont want to put a thermostat in it if it runs like that when hot!!

You need to put it back in, as it creates pressure in the block and head to stop the coolant boiling, basically running without a stat is a big no no. You could also get a cool running stat if yuo worried about the temp they open at 82 deg compared to 92.
