View Full Version : what time is it?? dunno mines wrong!

fitted the cam belt wuhayy!!!! thought I had set the timing up correctly (top cam pully notch facing upwards and bottom cam pully notch facing downward as described in haynes). Engine wont start though, the timing is well off. any ideas?

the bottom pully has a notch in it aswell. if you look at the side of the pully there should be a small spikey thing - this is what you need to line up the notch on the pully with. it shouldnt be facing downwards!!. when they are aligned make sure that piston number 1(closest to the cam pulley) is at top dead centre(tdc) as it could be at the bottom of the stroke with the marks aligned. then line up the top marks (there should be a mark on the plate behind the cam pully that aligns with the notch in the cam pully. when both sets of marks are lined up fit the belt and the car should start.

Have you checked that any valves are bent? I know the 1.3 engine is freewheeling, and I'm pretty sure the 1.4 is. If one or two are knackered, it won't start then! If you'vehad the head off, have you plugged everything back in? (Sorry, obvious I know.)

On my bottom pully their is a lil arrow and on the cam cover their is a lil notch at the bottom of it according to the picture on the haynes they should be lined up. How should I Line it up then???

no there is a notch or sumtimes 2 very close together on the bottom pully wheel.

there is a pointer on the engine block (down the front bottom section ov the block)

about 125 degrees ish
