hes got a FMIC and phase II chips(ithink)

and he said he wants over ?900 for it.. imo thats 2much and he said that he could get over 1k if he broke the engine?

Well, fooked rings=a hone, and new rings at least. So thats probably ?200 ish to put right.
Assuming nothing else is wrong with it.

Does ?900 include the gearbox?

Ring failure will mean it'll need re-boring, with bigger pistons putting in, so basically the block is only worth scrap value imo. Sounds like it might have had a hard life too, but someone will come along and pay a daft price for it no doubt.

Shame, as the F28 is worth about ?300 alone,Lol.

Up to you really.

Personally, i'd find a unabused(if they exist), and good running example.
"Cheap" engines never end up cheap, they end up costing more than a good runner costs.

The Std KKK16 turbo is good for PH2, around 280bhp(which is not really slow is it? lol)

After that you may want to look at a 200sx manifold with a let flange fitted to run a larger turbo(T3/T34 etc)

Not many people want them tbh, unless re-building/replacing a LET to std spec.
Normal rate is about ?100, second hand on mig etc.

his wanting 350 for the evo 5 chips fmic pipework and the fmic so i guess he wants the 900 for a standard engine

nearly every LET you buy will need a rebuild imho. they are 10 years old at the very very very least and have nearly all lead a hard life.

A full engine rebuild would be on the cards with any LET purchased...Having a fized pwoer/spec goal and stick to it so that you wind up with a reliable engine. 300bhp seems a realtively easy/relaible power figure to hit etc.
