Just doing my usual Sunday gander on ebay and came across this...
I messaged him asking why he thought it was fast and his responce was that he had 80 out of it in 3rd gear...........lol

i wasnt dreaming mate lol if i was dreaming it would be a 2.0 in the engine bay not a 1.2 but i promise you that i can get 70 in 2nd if i didnt know it was possible and someone else said it then i wouldnt belive them but its been done lol

The point im trying to raise is that he said it did 80 in 3rd but how does that make it fast?? it probably took an hour to achieve that and telling that to someone just says hey dya know what ive proper ragged the ballacks outta this!!!

yeah i was in a 1.2 4 speed and it made 90 in 4th and that was it nailed (down a hill as well)

Point is though ya just cant advertise an engine that looks dog muck which is a 1.2 as being fast!!

haha very true ^^ i think all you could say on the positive side is that its reliable and that 105 thing above could be true as i got about 96-7 out of my 1.2 lol but that was on the way back from skeg

my friends dad got 105/110 out his 1.2 4 speed going down a slight hill which was very straight..but i wouldn't do that kinda thing regularly

yea and belive me you need a long straight as it takes ages to get top speed out of a 1.2 lol when it gets to 90 all you can say is coommmeee onnn just 10 more MPH lol

The day I passed my driving test, back in june 1986, I got my gran's nova 1.2 merit down a big hill (the A447 near Osbaston, Leics. its about a mile long straight slope) & it showed 100mph. In real terms, it was probably doing 90. It had no rev counter, so me & my mate worked out the optimum mph for gear change, based on the GM brochure.
1st-2nd 28mph
2nd-3rd 51mph
3rd-4th 75mph
The car lasted about 90000miles before the engine ate itself.

Yes but you will find that while the speedo will say youre doing one speed in actual fact youre doing far far less, vauxhall guages are notorious for being liars and trust me by the state of that sorry mess its going to be about as fast as my dads petrol strimmer, and thats siezed too hehe.

But joking apart i wish the 1.2spi`s were fast cos then mine woulnt be soooooo slow lol, and yes my speedo reads 80mph when i get to the end of 3rd gear too, but i never usually find a strip of road long enough as it takes hours to o that lmao!!

he speaks the truth, i had a digidash in my old 1.2 and got 105 out of it, but you had to have it in fourth when you did it, as soon as you hit 5th the speedo went downlol

Oh btw like the above ... The guy that prev owned it and told me he got 105 out of it also did this well using a digi clock... If the car has done very little miles can it go faster? lol

i doubt it, you'd get 105 in fourth with the engine screaming and if you went any faster in fourth the engine would pop (well 1.2's wont go bang will they? lol ) as soon as you change to 5th the speed goes down, probably due to wind resistants lol

you never know how fast your going in a nova. borrowed my mums tomtom it was speedo was reading about 70 tomtom said 62:eek:

My old J reg 1.2 4 speed would quite happily do an indicated 110, would have been nowhere near that in reality though.
