I posted a message on here a few weeks ago that I was having problems getting 2nd gear, and the problem was that the oil pressure swithc was getting in the way on the gear linkage.

well now theres anoter problem with 2nd gear ! It won't go into 2nd gear when im trying to go 3rd to 2nd or 4th to 2nd.

Its fine going up the gears, but coming back down them it just won't go into 2nd.

If I really ram it hard it scrapes into 2nd from 3rd but this can't be good for the box so I don't want to do this.

I have adjusted the pinch bolt and reset the gears like it says in the workshop manual and it still does it.

The only other thing it says in the haynes manual is that the clutch could be fucked. which it can't be or it woulnd't go into any gears surely ?

any ideas coz cornering and going round mini roundabbouts in 3rd is starting to piss me off !

Same happens to mine mate. I haven't really done anything to fix it, changed the gearbox oil and found rakes of metal chippings! ouch!

The only thing I can suggest is undoing the pinch bolt so that you can operate the gears manually and check each out by moving the linkage on top of the 'box. This should show whether it's a problem in the box or with the linkage settings ( most likely). If its not the linkage worn/incorrectly set then it could be the selector mechanism out of sorts in the box (can these be adjusted?) or the synchromesh units worn/damaged (unlikley).
If everything is OK you should be able to select each gear with a crisp clunk. Try changing the linkage?? I'd recommend Quickshift - you get a really positive gear selection with them. Check your oil.

I have sorted the gear problem by resetting the gears with the pinch bolt / 4.5 mm drill bit etc. This is the 3rd time I have done this in 3 weeks now !

why does it keep needing to be re adjusted ?

CP - how do I check the gearbox oil level ?
