i converted my 1200 nova to a 1300 sr and it runs but is not 100%.
On idle it is missfiring and then when you rev it she doesnt hesitate to rev but just sounds like its not right. I have put a new rocker cover gasket on, new inlet manifold gasket, new exhaust gasket, new dizzy cap, new plugs, new leads and another coil on. After changing all that one by one and starting it after everything i done it did not get better. Eventually when i had changed all the parts i could, she still did not run better. I also cleaned all the earths and stuff like that. made sure every wire and plug was connected and the only thing thats not is the auto choke. Sure that would not make a difference.

Anybody have any ideas as it really pissing me off now and i am starting to think about swapping the engines back over. I do not want to spend much on the engine or take it to a garage or anything.

Cheers, Greg

Do you have a timing strobe light?

If so, use that to check your getting a spark on every cylinder.

Got a compression tester?

Even new dizzy caps etc can be faulty....

Have you heard the engine running normally?
Or has it always mis fired?

yes it was running normally when i removed it from the old nova.

It has a peco exhaust on and it is really raspy so i am just wondering if it is actually not running right?

On idle there is a hell of alot of vibration and the when you go to the exhaust its like there is a rag or something like that over the exhaust causing it to flap about. It just does not seem right?

I will go and take a video of it running and revving etc and upload it. See what you think. Might now be able to tell anything as the quality will be rubbish as its from a phone. Worth a try though.

could it be the crappy pierburg twin choke carb? This is maybe why she does not like idling sometimes either? Sometimes she just drops the revs then cuts out?

That may cause dodgy idling, but doubt it would cause a misfire.
