Yes, or at least it used to be. For example, either hotmail or yahoo mail used to deactivate your account if you hadn't logged into it for a certain time period, like 3 months or something and delete it if you hadn't logged in for a longer period, like 6 months or a year. The email address would then be available for someone else to use when they sign up. I don't think it happens so much now though.

And what happens if your credit card details or somthing else confidential gets passed on to that address? you could sue the company...

but thats your own beef for not logging into the accounts... plus they tell you this anyway. and you shouldnt be passing your CC details round in emails either lol

Yeah, sue the company that mails personal information out. TBH You'd have to be very patient/observant and have a really stupid company to do that with. And any information left in the mailbox is deleted long before the address is put back in the pool. And the previous owner would have to be pretty dense for not updating their personal info on websites that hold such data!

So,. if some dickhead had the email address of alelol@aol.com, and he claimed to have only had this email address for 3 weeks, would that be possible?

He's been very rude and nasty to a few people in the past, but he's now saying that someone else had this addy and it wasn't him!

That make sense??? lol

it is very possible, theres a thing with hotmail where if you register an email address thats recently been shutdown, you will see the emails from the previous owner and even get there messenger contacts, in workplaces its less likely, and would only really happen to a temp worker as some companies have the same email address, or numbered addresses for temps, like temp1@novaload.net :p

no its not then, unless hes closed the aol address or the master screen name has, if he hadn't paid AOL it would be atleast a month as its a monthly direct debit
