im hopeing to get 90-100 bhp out of my 1.4 with a 1300 head ported and polished. a 320 degree kent cam, 4-1 branch manifold, 1300 inlet with weber 32/34 and stainless system ( the bottom end is being rebuilt too)
also if you want better power try twin 40's ;)

Or a std 1600 GTE lump with no mods & more torque.

fair play for trying though, its been done lots of times so your arent breaking new ground.

My 1.4 Sr was dyno'd at 96 bhp with just a Weber DMTL, Jetex front pipe & K&N. (setup at Novatech)

Ran my old H plate 1.4SR on a set of Sport carbs and 4 into 1 only i.e. no cam or head work and it put out 105 Bhp on the rolling road dyno lottery!

Craig has a point.
My t40d 1400 engine is slightly flat until 3k rpm, comes alive after 3k rpm, good for full bore blasts yeah, but not so good for overtaking without switching down a gear etc.

indeed it was a 1.4 not a 1.3 (well ok it was a 1.3 block but hey)

i was thinking more about retaining the 1.4 and carbs rather than run a 1.6 gte

Stuart

Adam

Can be done for much less if you drop on and happen to find some carbs cheap, with correct sized chokes/jets, and with the right inlet etc.

Dont just find a set of carbs, get a inlet, and fit them, as chances are it will run totally ****e, unless there setup quite close to ok to begin with. And thats unlikely.

yeh mine kicks in at 3k also, its fun tho i must addmit.

Thats fair enough but thats like choosing a rough bird in a night club & going the whole hog of getting her to change her wardrobe, get her a new hair style & then saving for silicone implants only to find out the stunner in the corner with big tits, wanted your babies the whole time.

I would even bet ?5 that a 1600 GTE is quicker accelerating when in 5th gear anyway.

so how much power would i get out of a 1.4 with a weber carb, 4-2-1 manifold' exhaust system, and a cam kit and what cam kit is the best for power incresses

Stuart

90bhp tops i recon...

the piper bp300 is good but makes top end peaky, the kent AST2 is the best all rounder in our experience

some one said to me there is no point moding the cylinder head is this true

Adam

No point modding a 1.4sr head no.
Just get a ?15 1.3 head, thats pretty much as good as a fully worked/flowed 1.4sr head.

True when it comes to the 1.4 carb head yes. The standard 1.3 head flows better, and is worth a couple/5 bhp. The sri head is better still, in fact it's equivilent to having you're standard head modified to blyndenstein B+ standards.

so how much do the sri heads go for

Stuart

its worth noting that there are NO single carb manifolds that suit the sri head.

what so you would have to twin carb it again
