hey everyone just wanted to know what size the astra GTE/GSI 2.0 brakes are am i right in thinking they are 256mm and they also come off some cavvys and calibras? also will 256mm brakes fit under nova 3 spoke alloys (14")

they are 256MM, V6 are 288, i think they just fit, im sure you'll see some pictures of peoples bodged work to make them fit lol

lol i love the bodge work but what bodging do you have to do to make them fit under the nova alloys?

Normally a grinder to the inside of the spokes, not recommended IMO!

You could use part worn pads, or use some spacers, but id get some new wheels tbh lol

some people opt for grinding the caliper lol

hmmm im all up for grinding the caliper but how much is needed to grind off is it just trial and error? and is it safe lol like will the caliper crack under hard braking all the time?

If you want to take a grinder to something as important as your brakes, you go ahead lol :thumb:

well if its any help i had these brakes under 14 inch steels so they should be ok but very little should have to be taken off the calliper if any i guess it depends on your wheels

Nova specific 14's are the only 14's from vauxhall that will not fit without dubious grinding of the calipers. later 14" steelies and generally any wheel from mk3 cavs and astra's fit perfectly.

oh that might be why sorry my mistake lol NEW WHEELS THEN

You don't need to take all that much off the caliper.

that looks like a bit of chopping going off there i dont know it might be better alloys tbh but we will see lol i dont fancy grinder half of something that i rely on to stop the car at 70 odd MPH lol

Is the cars engine uprated?
If your desperate to retain the 3spokes, just stick with GSI spec vented discs and if you wan to upgrade buy drilled discs and uprated pads.
Unless your going over 100bhp uprated GSi items will be fine, they also weigh less.
Weight is one of the reasons ive retained 256mm brakes on my XE instead of fitting the 288mm brakes i have. I plan to uprate the discs n pads so as not to have the excisessive weight the 288mm discs n calipers bring.

imho drilled discs are toss unless the drillings are "cast" into the disc, in which case it makes them more expensive than drugs lol.

std gsi vented discs + mintex m1144 pads will be perfect for light track use (power is irrelevant imho)

i belive the 256*20mm setup might fit with no mods (these were fitted to the corsa gsi) but dont quote me.

They are the ones I have fitted, they did require grinding but not much.

Elighten me as to the reasoning.

Drilled ones that have been drilled tend to crack.

^ bingo.

if they are drilled with good drill bits, and are finished properly then great, but most aftermarket bits arent done properly.

If you look at good drilled discs you will notice what looks like a countersink in the face of the disc... this reduced the stress, but again looking at them thye arent machined countersinks, they are cast in, making them costly.
