I was driving to wales in my mk3 astra sri when i got to around chester, i was on the dual carriage way when i dipped the clutch and the engine stalled.
I pulled over at the side and opened the bonnet, the cam belt was still on but it had sheered dome teeth off the belt as it was going round the bottom pulley.
I allways take tools with me wherever i go so i took the belt off and walked to a little village where i went into a garage to see if they could sell me a belt but he was very un helpfull and told me to catch a buss into a place called queensfury which i did and went to a motor factors.Theb the guy said he didnt have a belt then he double checked with my old belt and found 1 left, talk about luck.I went back to the car by bus and walking fitted the cam belt cranked it over and YEAH im back on the road i went to wales and back no problem allround 300 miles its a good job really that i broke down there really because the rest of the way there wasent any shops or anything.
Thats vauxhall for you the best when it dies go wrong its easly fixed, admittedly i should have changed the belt alot sooner this is why i love vauxhall's so much lol

Dont even bother carrying tools in my car. Thats what breakdown recovery is for.

Dont think so sunshine, one day you wont be so lucky. Not only that my cars are looked after. Prevention is better than cure.

Ive done loads of things like that, best one was at midnight on a roundabout changing a hub on a corsa with a pair of mole grips and a handfull of spanners that didnt fit. lol

I carry a shedload of tools in my car, but they're mainly for working on the Nova at the weekends. I have RAC to repair my car if it goes tits up

Would you fancy fiddling with this on the roadside? lol

I remeber getting my old escrote sideways on a roundabout, hit the kerb and ended up on the grass. Got it moving, limped down the road with the wheel wobling, next thing i see as a slow down into a layby is the wheel bounce past me on the inside! Id snapped the stub axel. Once pulled over, I called my dad who recalled seen a dumped orion in his work carpark, we went there, stripped the rear wishbone and arms, took the complete unit to my car, swapped the lot over and was back on the road in a hour or 2.
Was the ultimate pike!

I love storys like this! Ive had a few, one being the pin falling out of my gear linkage on my asteravan on the M1, so pulled over, walked up the embankment and used a claw hammer to yank a nail out of the fence. The nails still holding the linkage together!

I also had to fit a new bottom ball joint to a mates jetta in the middle of a busy roundabout. It sheared off and the car dug into the floor so there was no hope of moving it lol
