engine tapping,please help

hi all,i recetly did the head gasket on my 1400 sr.
for some reason it has started tapping,ive run it upto temperature and let the fan come in a few times but it still hasnt gone away.
i put everything back in the same place as they were when i took them out.
i was looking for some ideas of what to check before i start messing with it.

did you drain the hydraulic lifters?

I had a similar problem on my 1.3SR...turned out to be the camshaft had a blockage and the oil wasn't getting out on some of the lobes. This wore the cam out and made it loose which tapped about in the cam carrier.

mine did this last month, and it turned out to be the actual head gasket being the incorrect one making the pistons clip it! are you sure its the sr gasket ans not the injection verion?

i did ask for the sr one mate and it did seem to be the right one when fitted,but its definately something for me to consider checking.

i'd say possibly a faulty lifter or two- i had it with a set just before christmas.

or if one of the rockers came off while you was putting the head on it'll just be rattling around on the hydraulic lifter
