you may do as the final drive is the same on both, although some 4 speeds are actually 5 speeds, but when they were made a plastic block was put in place to stop you getting it into 5th, but this was only on the ones that vauxhall f*cked the production on lol

if you get a f13cr box then acceleration will be better than 4 speed f10wr

all four gears in a 4 speed are higher geared because they had to push them all down to get 5th in 4 speed for racing 5 speed for economy lol

a gearbox from an astramax van is a f13cr and i think some of them even had a limited slip diff.

its a 1.2 nova pal , i dont think there were made to be quick cars :( lol i think if you put a 5speed box in you wouldnt really notice any difference ! at end of day its still only a 1.2 nova :) BUT... i aint saying its a bad idea just giving my oppion !

i dissagre wit youre oppion! i think its a step in the right direction and you shud feel more urgency in every gear especialy 2nd + 3rd.

Im guessing that an astramax van is a diesel an thus will be a F13wr due to diesels not reving as high as petrol ones an i dont know of hardly any vauxhall coming with a lsd thats what vauxhall do best.

just remember to get the gearstick as well, they are different.

If you want a 5 speed, then get one. It won't affect your insurance, and you should get a little extra acceleration.

90% of gear sticks are the same, the others just have a small lug to stop it going into the 5th gear position. Might 4spd stick worked a 5speed box no problems, without changing/modifying anything.
No need swap the stick.

Remove the gaitor, and cut the plastic lug off thats stopping the stick going into 5th.

my car was origionally a 4 speed till the 1.3sr and 5speed were swapped in last summer, ive always had a bit of trouble getting it into 5th so i took off the center consol and cut the stopper off

the red square shows where it used to be....its a 30second job

Yup, and thats the ONLY mod needed to fit a 5spd.
Most sticks dont even have that on.

while your in there its worth while to undo the two 10mm bolts holding the ball joint in place, wiggle it all out and clean/re grease the ball and socket. I used CV joint grease as it was what i had to hand. Well worth it to make the stick movement silky smoooth after 13 years minimum of grease getting dusty and dry.

As in swapping the box over?! Erm, gearbox change = modification = insurance company needs to know, and may charge for it!
