Thoughts on the above? Anybody still considering buying a new 4x4? lol

I think I work out ?20ish a year better off in terms of income tax*, but then will probably p*ss that away (literally) in the 1p-per-pint alcohol increase. Fuel duty is up by 2p as well, so my petrol costs will probably rise by an extra ?50 a week for the Celica :D...

*Not accounting for the couple hundred quid I owe the tax office from just about all of my previous employers having funked up my tax payments

I think in the long run most people will be worse off!

Worse off as usual, any savings will be more than wiped out by increased stealth taxes, and the abolition of the 10p base rate.

Disposable income has barely grown under New Labour, after a small intial rise it had grown at 0.3% for the fast 5 years, so that's less than inflation.

the 10p rate going only "really" effects under ?20K workers that arent claiming tax credits/got kids... so in short single folks on a small wage get a shoeing.

nice lmao

Yeah, my calculation was on my basic salary of ?19k, not including the couple grand benefits, any less than that and I'd start losing out. So much for helping the needy! As for the road tax debacle, just buy a 4x4 from <1999 and pay the simple two-tier rate of VED... OR buy a <1973 V8 and pay ?nothing :D

Labour lost my vote ages ago. Although, David Cameron bringing tea and cakes out to reporters outside his house didn't help, don't see Mr Blair doing that lol

I don't trust the Labour party at all, and I'm not a fan of Gordon Brown, far sooner have Tony in charge again, better the devil you know and all that. I suppose I better get married and have kids, the 10p base rate abolition will fcuk me when Im single and teaching in the first few years on under 20k a year. Cheers Labour. I try and do a profession which is 'for the greater good' and get screwed for it. I may as well deal drugs.

ohhh good, jack fell for the 4x4 media ploy lol.

ITS BASED ON CO2 EMISSIONS FFS, this happens to catch most "off road" vehicles... but not soley for them, and its only evil for band G which was implemented post march 2006.

Jack

lol by 4x4 I mean proper 4x4s, big 4 litre land rovers and etc which fall into band F and G, not poncy chelsea tractors. Not as bad as Alex though, she was banging on how my car being a 4 wheel drive, I'd have to pay ?400 a year VED :p

Incidentally, its pre-2001 vehicles that have the two tier, not 1999 as I said above, oops

Tony is still in charge... well, he's the figurehead anyway lol

I know Tonys still in charge atm lollollol it just looks like Brown will end up being Prime minister!

Will the higher tax also apply to large engined sports cars and coupes, like C55 Mercs and 6 series BMs as well as 4x4s?

it doesnt matter what the budjet says, i always end up worse off !!

Alex.

I think it's silly charging silly tax on people who actually need 4x4's. e.g my dad. Not middle aged women going to get their kids from school though.

Jack

Your Dad's range rover isn't a >2006 model though is it! lol

Alex.
22-03-07, 05:59 PM
No but apparently, according to the tree hugging bint on GMTV it's gonna be all 4x4's. I dunno. She did look a tad crazy.

Jack
22-03-07, 06:04 PM
Clearly just as crazy as she looks then lol Go read Stu's post, its not done on vehicle class, its done on emissions :p

Although I wouldn't put it past them to span the emissions bands back a few years... might have to go take a look at just how polluting my car is for a laugh lol

I hate society today, ****ing greedy capitalist w@nkers! New Labour is a joke.

Life under the old one wasn't a picnic, The three day week & power cuts. The nationalised industries could make any old rubbish and did, They are the reason that we don't have a domestic car industry any more, except for morgan.

The tories had to start a war to get re-elected (the Falklands), & 15% interest was great fun.

In my opinion, in each constituency they should put everybody's name into a great big tombola, and the 'Winner' should be made to be the MP, and have to work regular hours & be accountable. They couldn't be any worse than the ones we've got at the moment.

Vote for Burgo!!!!!
