Hi im currently experience that my 97 1.7 isuzu td astra takes ages firing up, not till sometimes the 4th shelf does it eventually start, and while im attempting to fire it up, chucks out quite abit of smoke (light grey). But once started it runs absolutley fine:confused:

its not loosing oil, but maybe consuming abit more water than usual. cars done 105k

any ideas pls:confused: :thumb:

P.s once started and u turn it off, and start it again, starts 1st time instantly.

Probably the stem seals id guess, theyre leaking oil into the cylinders, therefore making it a bitch to start and blowing all the smoke as it burns it off. My astra van has gone the same way.

Change the glow plugs before going any further.

Change the glow plugs before going any further.

is it as simple as changing a spark plug?

sorry, yeah, glow plugs first, but i was referring to the copious amounts of smoke. And yeah, it would have a blue tinge but its not as easy to spot as on a petrol engine as its not being burned at such a high temperature.

kinda, undo the nuts on top of glow plugs, on all 4, then remove wire. Then undo plugs, re-fit new ones and connect wire back on. And stem seals is a fairly big job, head off etc.

i'll change the glow plug, if no joy sell it or px/ it with something else as i cant be asked to spend major money on it. :thumb:

Don't sell it, do the glow plugs, see how it goes.

hmmm sounds like a business/shop to me now tom :p

glow plugs are about ?20 tops from hellfrauds..
Id be inclined to get a multimeter on the glo-plug wire to see that theya re being turned on first. if theya rent then its likely to be the relay/controller thats fecked.

it might be letting the diesel back and then all the turning is sucking it back up to the injector pump?

Turned out to be the glow plugs. local garage charged me ?70 cash thus did not register the VAT otherwise ?85.

called vaux it was roughly ?9 per plug so bouts ?40 there so ?30 labour to test and fit.
