No u cant use either, later (2.8 motronic) has extra connectors for air temp sensor, dispak etc etc. It also uses a different ecu (Which i assume will have more/different connectors)

were there not different ones for the M2.5 though? Early ones dont have the lamda sensors whereas the later ones do?

i have two wiring looms for my nova 1 has been moddified and the other is slightly different the first one has a big connector block which goes to the starter and that the second has a few extra connectors a blue 1? and three together two black and 1 green one black block has a blue/red wire think its the fuel pump, where would i connect the live negative and what ever else needs connecting??

The XE loom is self contained and only requires connection to the following

Large Red - perm power direct to battery
Thin black (single pin connector to right of fuel rail) - accesory power, needs to be connected to a cranking live accesory (depending on the model, there is usualy one on the nova loom on the right of the engine bay, if not siply wire one from the fuse box.)
Blue and red - Fuel pump, this comes from the large relay and needs to supply the positive to the fuel pump.
Earth - this is handled by the earth strap that is on the gearbox, (the XE loom earths directly to the engine at each end of the fuel rail.)

The Starter and alternator circuits need to be that of the original novas, but oy can use the XE donor one, either may require slight adjustments but this should be straight forward.
There is a large power which leads directly to the starter and alternator.
The black and red is the starter signal.
There are 2 other cables, one is for the alternator warning light (blue and white IIRC) and one for the oil pressure (posilble blue with green trace?)

Additional cabling includes Rev gauge signal (green (IIRC), blue for the temp sensor, brown with yellow trace for the ecu light. These all need to be connected from the xe loom (there should be a few small 2-3 pin connecting blocks that, If you mount ur ecu on the drivers kick panel, can be spliced in to the nova behind the dash.

To connect the ecu to the car loom in the original vehicle.
They have the fuel pump etc wire on, as explained by loggy.
