saloon modified by a toyota

Saturday morning me and a mate niped to the local autofactors to get some parts for the nova turbo project we have on the go in the projects page and on the way back we found that the brakes on his nova saloon run around wasnt as good as we thought!

some idiot missed his turning and slammed his brakes on during a swooping blind bend 3 cars in front of us just managed 2 stop but we didnt even get the chance 2 lock a wheel.

50mph straight into the back of a toyota avensis and this was the result

and me how i spent most of my day saturday straped 2 a spinal board was not nice

i have cracked ribs muscle and tisue damage of the neck and chest whiplash and bruising of the sternum

my mate the driver has simalar injurys apart from he has a deep laseration 2 the knee aswell

all in all i thought the little old saloon stood up well 2 the impact but also as a result theres no way that were gonna have the turbo done ready for pv:wall:

this jjust goes to show that seatbelts do save lives, if you wernt wearing yours you couvle hit the road or gone through the rear window of the toyota

its true yes it was the seatbelt that gave me the injurys i have but if i wasnt wearing it i dont think i would be alive to have any they realy do save lives its made me think twice about making sure i wear 1 and braking distances.

even though that said in this case the distance wasnt so much of an issue it was round a blind bend by the time the car in front had twiged and braked we was already in the back of it

I bet the Toyota doesn't have a scratch on it - a Merc went into the back of me once, not a scratch on my GT4 but the front of the merc was a bit mashed. Japan 1, Germany 0 lol

toyota back bumper pushed in and cracked dent in boot and cracked light thats it! it looks like it had been hit with a shopping trolly not ramed from behind at 50 couldent belive it realy if i got a pic i will post it up later

Unfortunately not, in terms of insurance if you go into the back of someone its your fault - they'll argue you should have left enough room to stop.

Unlucky mate, i got a mk1 nova shell if you want it to replace the saloon, its had no welding done 20 quid its yours Lol other wise its goin to the scrappy!

Do we know that for sure? I dont reckon a stitch welded & plated shell would be that much stronger in a frontal impact. Most of the strengthening is based on torsional rigidity.

stitch welding will go down the arch's etc... makes it stonger. OK the stitch theory is that you keep some crumple, but tis still going to be harder to crumple than a non welded front end..

This is all assumption and theory based on what ive seen in crash tests at work but obv not got a pile of novas in various shell states and crash tested them lmao.

no it was more or less a rotter the turbo will hurt its been seem welded on every seem in the bay and close stitched on the rest of the shell that 1 will hurt
