go to www.pvgevents.net/forum (http://www.pvgevents.net/forum) and visit the Nova Sport section. Theres a sport register, as well as a lot of sport owners on there.

of the 500 made, only 3000 are known to exist.

one of my friends had a sport sitting in his garden after he rolled it along time ago. He had it sitting for years and i phoned up about it not that long ago but the shell was scrapped and the engine and box was sold to a guy in fife.

TBH there seems to be plenty around at the moment - compared to around to say 10 years ago. Would say there is around 50 or so on the loose.

Have had two and at the same time aswell. I know of three localish to me that are not know over the net. Hopefully one of them will be residing in my garage soon;)

i would love to own one. I would store it in a big workshop and completly restore it. Make every nut and bolt prefect and everything so clean and shiny like it came out the showroom. I would use it as a show car and a summer car for only dry.

What I was getting at was that there were 500 'official' nova sports made.
they were made out of a white base model 3dr shell with a 1.3 engine & cr box with irmscher supplied twin 40's & manifold, with no doubt other mods for competition.
they were quite successful in production saloons, but hugely successful in rallying (Colin McRae burst on the scene in one, usually winning or rolling it spectacularly).

The thing is: GM Dealer Sport supplied official homologation kits to make your car up to 'sport' spec. People have been faking them for over 20 years, simply get a nova 3dr, paint it white, fit a 1.3 sr engine & box, buy a manifold, find some old twin 40's off a mk2 escort & get the famous side stickers fitted. Instant profit. most fake sports do not have the irmscher airbox.

Air boxs are always on ebay so dead easy to add to a fake, you also need to take into account the solid rear seat, not 60/40, the carbs are numbered 143 and 144 if i remember right, not just a case of Escort carbs, they had a 2 speed blower motor for the heater not the usual 3 speed, 502 cars built, the Irmscher bolt on goodies came in a box in the boot, The only option was a cam, and passenger mirror. The base model is only a sport, all cars should read base on the log book, no other car is a base.

my b reg 1.2 merit had a solid rear seat & a 2 speed fan. I have personally had details changed on log books in the past. A lot of people in the past have not bothered to check out the numbers, & a lot of people don't know what to look for.
The sport was a great car, & if a genuine one surfaced near me, I would have a damned good go at buying it.

Ahh yes, but did your b reg merit have one piece rear seats in the brown burberry sr check style? As these are the seats thta mark is referring to. Most early novas had a two speed fan, but the sport dash can be indetified by side heater vents missing, deleted cigarette ligher and clock, As well as the sr 6 dial clock binnacle.

If you have a sport, or are thinking of buying a sport, then it's always best to get it's identity verified by the man that created them in the first place. The chassis no's of all the cars are held by vauxhall still. I had mine checked out before i bought it off will, and he even sent me a nice confirmation letter too. I've bought a sport in the past and thought that it was 100% original. As I've learned to my cost, sport stickers, airbox, irmscher inlet, carbs etc etc DO NOT make an original sport, just a good replica!

my dash in my mk1 had no side vents no clock and no cigarette lighter, does this mean its a sport dash painted grey?

Dave.

it also had solid rear seats, not the split in 2 stuff

i was talking to one of my pals one day then we got to the subject of novas, he goes my cousin has a nova up at my dads old barn, he goes its white i remember it looking smart. i asked him what kind it was and he doesnt know anything about cars and said, its under a cover well go up and have a look. we drove up to this abandoned farm and went up to the UNLOCKED shed, the shed was empty and at the back sure enuf there was a nova under a cover. i pulled up the sheet and just saw the red and yellow stripe, and goes, eh neil you do know this is a sport. he goes, tidy eh. the window was open enuf you could get your hand in and pull the door lock up. i popped the bonnet and it had the fortys and airbox on it. it looked absaloutley minted and didnt have one mark on it, it had like 30 000 on the clock or somthing stupid. i still dont think its moved. i told him to lock the garage but i dont think he has. ill post some pictures up if you want the thing is absoloutly minted.

the ammount of "genuine sport carbs" ive seen kicking about would imply that the dealers probably sold the carbs out of the back door for mates lol

A sport in the flesh STILL looks like a photoshop :D

i think there is a fair few about but modified ones, its hard to find originals as i suspect many people cant put up with imo the nasty chocolate interior,i bet so many people change this and i think that many would of removed the graphics back in the day

I guess people are realising their worth and keeping hold of them and not rallying them anymore! Plus the internet has made keeping track of them easier, as well as people registering previously unregistered cars on Nova sport registers over the last few years!

Both have gone now:( not forgotten though. Currently have a minty B Swing and enough Sport bits to convert it to 'Sport' spec.
