while taking the engine out of my nova i was undooing the speedo cable on the gearbox end and when i pulled it out a bit of plastic fell into the transfer box, the engine is now out but im not sure wather to take the transfer box out and try and find it, will it do any damage if left in?

turn the gear obx over by hand, you can do this by putting a shaft in and turning that for more leverage

but that still means i have the bit of plastic in the transfer box!

will it damage it? its unlikely, the plastic would probably sink to the bottom of the gearbox fluid, you should be able to take it out by taking the plate of the bottom, but this would mean lots of fluid spilling, a new gasket and new fluid

ok, i took the transfewbox plate off and got the speedo drive gear out that fell in, now i need to refill the transfer box with oil but i cant find were to fill it up from?

theres a bolt in the top of the gear box, have a look there, should be the right place, think its 15mm

the bolt you need is the breather its got ahole in it:)

isnt there a nut below the filling point IIRC that shows its full, ie it'll start coming out of that when it is then just put it back in quick.

think i know were you mean lew but too late now, ended up filling it through were the speedo cable goes into the gearbox!! seemes to be fine :confused:

You fill it through the breather bolt hole on top(has a plastic cap on, remove the whole bolt, 17mm iirc)
And the level check plug is by the short driveshaft, remove the plug and fill till oil emerges from the hole..

meh id just leave it in lol theres a few washers knocking about in the top end of my SR engine, they've been in there about a year now an not done any harm :D
