yeh my problem is when i try to get 1st 3rd 5th its hitting the steering rack
Have you flipped the white universal joint over where to joins the gearbox selector fork?
turn the plastic block over in the middle of the linkage

yup
Take it your just using a std Nova linkage with the plastic bit flipped round ?
I usually just stick the box in neutral and position the gear lever in the midle then tighten it up, usually does the trick, might need a few small adjustments but it shouldnt be far off.

yes its in neutral and its stoping it from goin in the gears
Cant see how its hitting the steering rack as the linkage is in the same position as it would be with say a 1600 in, only difference is that you spin the plastic bit 180* at the box end.
big blocks you need long throw, small blocks and f28 you use short throw. My suggeustion would be to cut a bit out and wels it back up, like you have to do for the six speed. sounds like engines not sitting correctly or something mate.

there is a bar runing from one end of the linkage to the other make sure this is the right one as i fit the cav one instead witch is a bit shorter and mine did the same thing and when i put the nova one on it worked perfect

Cutting a bit out would make it worse, i cut out a bit to much on my F28 linkage & it just clears the rack by a few mm.
