ive just put a deposit down on a shell which ill be rebuilding when i move house. i want to rip out the old 1300 broken engine and put somethin better in there. i want to do a reletivly easy engine swap. (was gonna rebuild the 1300 but looked into this and choose to change it all together) i want to be able to do the whole thing on a budget. i was thinkin. 1.4 16v or 1.6 8v which would be easier. i dont want to have to mess around stripping it down as i simply dont have time. any need advice and help from you lot so please help.

thanx in advance
simon

what needs to be done when installing the 1.6 8v. will the ecu need a specialist to wire it up or should i just ditch the lot in favour of carbs. its it a case of out with the old in with the new

a chimp could wire the ECU up. its just a cae of getting/making a loom for the 1.6 8V and plugging it into the loom :D

I did an engine conversion in my old 1.3sr. I looked into all the options and the easiest by far for a sufficient power gain is to put a 1600sv engine in there. This engine is carburrated and there is literally 10 wires to swop. there is a bit of wiring loom attached to these engines but it isnt necessary, i just chucked it away. Me & a mate managed to do the whole thing in a day. Well worth it!

injection is efficient but carbs can be too. or you could go for the halfway idea and have TB's (although they can be expensive).

injection is easyer to get the emissions right on. but carbs can/are better for performance. at the end of the day its your call, on cost/performance/economy

You can get hold of a good sv engine from a cav j plate on wards are best. Low mileage one for about ?100 from a scrapy.

it is small block, so it will weigh about the same as the 1.2/1.4/1.6 (GTE/GSI) engines

power is 82bhp i think ;)
