View Full Version : Average paint + petrol = car paint?!?!
The other day my mate was telling me about how he knows someone owns a small garage where he sprays his own things, anyway, he rekons he mixes average paint that you put on your walls with petrol and sprays it on a few of his vans, just wondering if it really works cus if it does ill be sure to give it a go! If anyone knows whats the ratio of the mix spose to be?
Failing this, where can i get cheap proper car paint?

My dad emulsioned an old austin once when he was about 20 lol.
If the above isn't bull**** then the petrol will just be to thin the emulsion down enough to make it go through a spray gun, and will still give a matte finish when dry.

Oil and water do not mix, but either way its paint contained in a solvent.

Reminds me of an escort that someone brought in to the garage I was working at about 10 years ago. He wanted a new bonnet painting, said he had some of the paint from the re-spray left at home. Imagine our faces when he brought in a tin of dulux gloss a few days later! We mixed it up with 2-pack thinners and activator, and the finish was quite good! Somehow it was still nice and shiny 2 years later! And there was no sign of it peeling or flaking.
there used to be guy roun dhere with a rascal, he emulsioned it once a year lol he was a painter and decorator by trade so changed his logo every year aswell

Yeh thats what i thought the petrol would be for, the thinner, so you could get it through a spray gun Lol, i dunno ill give it a go if you like! And like you said it seems to stick well, i have seen the van he claims to have done it on, looks shiney and quite alright really, apart from the paint runs everywhere! Donate some money and ill give it a go!:D

2 Pack or Synthetic paint isn't that expensive so i cant see the point in just mixing any sh*t :wtf:
Look on Ebay, plenty of shops on there that supply car paint, iirc ?35 for 3ltrs of 2k,with activator and thinners to suit, thats more than enough to respray a nova:thumb:
