I've got a few questions before I swap my oil pressure sensor for one with the 2nd pin to run the dial on my 6 dial clocks :):

Will I need to drain the oil to remove the oil pressure sensor or am I likely to only lose a little bit? As I won't be able to get a torque wrench on it, do I just do it up as tight as I can with a spanner?

Last question, which I'm fairly certain of the answer to, is the blue/yellow wire I found taped up the correct one?

oh so its not standard on the nova? does it fit in the low oil sensor on the bottom of the engine? if it does you'll have to drain the oil or it'll leak like you took the sump plug out ;)

Yeah it does fit there. My father seems to think that only a little will dribble out so I just wanted confirmation. It is standard on SR's, GTE's and GSI's etc.. to have a similar sender as they came with the 6 dial clocks...

the hole is for the low oil warning, i think its directly connected to the sump

I thought it was "after" the oil pump?

it may be? Haynes should say lol

Haynes seems useless on the matter, but I'll have another read through.

I can't remember if they had a copper washer on them to form the seal.

the big food containers from asda work a treat, they only cost about ?2, i use them when i change my oil ;)

Just the oil out of the pump wil be lost, about a mugfull?
Yep just connect the blue/yellow wire staight up, will work fine.

EDIT, the reason you won't find anything useful in haynes is because they're s**t imho!

As john said, you'll just loose a bit, i just got a few splashes on my drive when i changed mine.
Just nip it up with a spanner, dont over tighten it.

Thats the right wire and you'll only lose whatever oil is in the oil galleries, so don't rev the engine hard straight after starting afterwards as there'll be no oil getting to the top for about 10-15 seconds.

it actually screws into the back of the block and let the car sit overnight so all the oil drains into the sump and you would only ever loose a tiny bit of oil so no need to drain it, hope that helps ye
