Whilst having a look under my mates car I'm doing I noticed how bloody close the tires sits to the spring on the rear coilover

I'm starting to wonder why AVO ever bothered to make these for a nova as they just about rub on the inner wheel arch turret as well as nearly touching the tire :wtf:

Load of **** in my opinion although the adjustable height at the back will be useful.

Who has these and what problems have you had with them ?

Wheels are 15" Cavalier Cesaro on 195/45/15 Yokos

everyone will have the same problem with the inner arch, people either turret the rear suspension or bash the inner arch in.

I had them on my corsa sri, i removed them cos they caught on my rear tyres.

Cheers guys

Smacking the arch in is out of the question, plus that wont sort out the tire clearance issues. Turrets would be the only way forward as you could move the fixing over on the beam so they sat vertical rather than angled, won't be doing that just yet though.

Certainly not had much like with these avo's, 2nd hand, both fronts needed new inserts and now the rears dont even fit !

Same as me then Jon, i had the avos on the rear.
They didnt scrub whilst on the standard 3 spokes, but scrubbed when i fitted my 15"s, i also blew one of the oil seals in one of the dampers.

Personally i wont waste my money again with them.
I fitted some fk adjustable rear dampers with 60mm springs instead and they get my vote over the avos anyday of the week. :thumb:

never had any problems here at all even when running my inters which are wider than the 195 eagle f1's.

Here are a few shots of the clearences i have on road tyres, and one of how low the car sits from the outside........

Both sides are exactly the same (i have one of the rear beams that is dead central :) )

just to add, i have never rubbed a tyre with the spring be it driving broad sideways at 50mph in the wet on track or even chucking the car up on 2 wheels across the curbs at llandow

If you want to change them I will give you a bad price
for them.

It just looked very close, I will have a look at the weekend to see exactly how close it is.

I sent mine back and swapped them for the seperate spring and damper setup. When I fitted them I couldn't get it low enough on the back without it bottoming out.

As for the fronts they were just a joke, bottomed out all the time, collars siezed up and had to be sawn off and the damping adjustment stopped working. Worst ?500 i've ever spent and thats saying something.

Whenever I defend my decision for turtreting my rear end I usually get shot down in flames.

I was well aware of the clearance issues & the often recommended measures of creating space with a hammer. NO WAY!

Ive turreted mine, plenty of clearance thanks.

Turreting is the best option, but I run AVO's and have no problems what so ever with them. One of the rear springs did rub a bit on the 16" wheels I have but that was because they where 7J wheels. Im running 15" wheels and they are fine. Although I do run a 5mm spacer.

I see alot of people slating the AVO coilovers, saying the seals go. But the dampening adjustment is supposed to go hand in hand with your spring rating. If you stiffen up the suspension dampening too much without uprating the spring then the damper ends up doing the work that the spring should be doing and then the seals break.

They also, (like any other peice of machinery) need to be serviced regularly, if they are 2nd hand then you have no idea of how old they are, how well they have been used or if they have ever been serviced.

Some good points made, Totally agree with DAR on the spring ratings being important, these particular AVOs cams with tiny short springs which a baby could of compressed so no doubt that was why the seals went.

Eventually once the car is up and running then I'll cut the back up and fit some turrets as well as a new boot floor as no need for a spare wheel well now.TBH it would actually help to do it now as it would give me somewhere to mount the fuel system etc but right now we just want the car running.

Others bits can be sorted at a later date

Good points Dar & Loggyboy.

Its hardly rocket science.
