My 2.0l 8v is having the wiring finished off tomorrow. I have bought a K&N off of Bob, but it hasn't arrived yet. At the moment there is no airfilter on the engine. Its a cav 2.0l engine. The large rubber pipe that the 57i bolts onto is there but no K&N. Can I drive it without the airfilter ??

Will it be o.k, if I cover the end up with something like a couple of pairs of tights so no dirt or dust gets in there or will this damage the engine ???

Will be fine. A friend of mine ran his 2.0 8v saloon for over a year without an air filter and it still hit 15.6 secs 1/4 mile.

I'm not running filters on my carbs atm as them foam ones burnt to a cinder.

Will have to sort somthing out soon.

It won't really effect it for a few days or weeks though.

It'll be fine, but dont try to bodge any foam or tights on as the engine will probably suck them in and combust them. I dont run any filters either.

Ickle footer! :P

so the end of the rubber pipe where theres a square hole, where the K&N should bolt on, I just leave that loose in the engine bay hanging down by the fan belt do i ?

WHY dont u use any filters MC?
is there an advantage to not having one?
just curious...

not having a filter means more air as less resistance to airflow, However filters clean the air. so basically as long as the air is clean (no dust, sand etc) u will get more power. But dont forget about moisture etc, Filters also stop that which doesnt help combustion

Lol! I thought i'd save a bit of dosh and made up a foam filter for my carbs. Went for a rag down to MC's and when I got there said to him to have a look at my pukha, new, cheap, dead cunning filter and guess what? Yep 4 bloody great holes where the trumpets were. Moral of the story don't bother with anything but proper ones. Its best to use them but not vital. The main danger is grit eroding and scratching the bores.

i never ran filterrs on my twin 40`s either

but....

when i had a weber 32/34 fitted with no filter i was off to "worlass`s" house and a small screw got sucked into the carb, down into the bores and smash the shit out ov a piston resulting in sum nasty noises and another engine needed pronto

why is it always the case that my engines blow up near christmas and i always end up with engine stuff on christmas day

I WANT SUM NICE PRESENTS FOR A CHANGE NOT A FECKING ENGINE!!!!!!!!!! X-(

quote "But dont forget about moisture etc, Filters also stop that which doesnt help combustion"

yes it does
moisture cools the inlet aka water injection this is why cars go better on misty winter mornings

that splitter was held on with 10 13mm bolts so hes ovibously wrecked the car in the process
