Quoted from MSN Motors UK

The unnamed driver is said to have lost control of the 1000bhp, 253mph supercar when it hit a patch of standing water on the B375 near Shepperton. The four-wheel drive Veyron then aquaplaned and crashed nose first into a ditch by the side of the road. It is not known whether any other vehicles were involved although Surrey Police have no record of the accident, suggesting the driver arranged himself for the car to be recovered. Doubtless the embarrassed owner is lying low and contemplating the sort of repair bill only a wrecked ?800,000 supercar can create

What I can't figure out is where to sit once the engine is in. Since I reckon the Veyron engine and box would fill a Nova up.....and some.

dar, the engine and tranny weighs nearly 700kgs..... far too heavy for bodywork lol.

looking at the damage it dosent look like it went into the ditch "tooooo" fast.

Yeah I'm sorry but anyone on here who drives around in their nova thinking they're king of the road would get a f*cking serious shock if they got behind the wheel of that thing. Also, if it did hit standing water and aquaplane, there would have been nothing the driver would have been able to do about it.

Its bad enough going from a 55bhp Nova to a 240bhp Celica lol

Seeing as these Bugattis are built at a loss (the purchase price being a fraction of the production cost) would the replacement parts to repair it be priced also at a loss, or would they be the price it costs to produce them, making this an extremely expensive car to repair?

Guess it shows why you shouldn't drive a supercar in the wet, even if you are rich as owt!

Stuart
06-03-07, 10:15 AM
if that story is remotely accurate the car stood up well to crashing that much at 100mph...(although id hazzard it was 100KPH lol)

Also IMHO i recon the veyron has so much technology trying to keep you on the road it would be quite a tame car to drive (even near the limit).... get into a fast car with NO driver aids and see the outcome lol

You only have to see mid 90s V8 TVRs to see this in practise, they must be all of 250bhp upwards and still spin at the slightest bit of wet over at Goodwood's track. The same must be true of F40s et al which will really take your hand off if you are driving like an idiot.

wisewood
06-03-07, 10:45 AM
lol @ the thought of the veyron being a 1000bhp tame car to drive. lollollol in fact.

Just remember stu, its only got rubber keeping it stuck to the road the same as anything. Well, that, and a computer program written by someone like you who works for audi lol

wisewood
06-03-07, 10:46 AM
ps. Yes i would say that they will sell panels and parts at a retail price, so that they can make a healthy profit on them. They WILL recoup the loss they've made on each of the cars somehow. Servicing and repairs is the most obvious place.

wisewood
06-03-07, 10:51 AM
An eyewitness told The Sun: "It was clearly an almighty bang. Bits of Bugatti were strewn all over the road. The front had been virtually ripped off, every panel was damaged and the front wheels were pointing in opposite directions."

That's funny, in the pics the whole of the car except the front end looked fine to me.

Stuart

a computer program written by someone like you who works for audi lol

hmm that could be why it crashed lmao

my thoughts exactly!! While he was emailing his mates and telling them about this house he was buying and the fit mortgage advisor he forgot the bit of code that deals with aqua-planing.

Stuart
06-03-07, 11:35 AM
pffft the only code ive forgotten recently is the diesel cat control software lol

Apparently the Veyron is very easy to drive. The accelerator is not button:D

I agree with you! The Veyron at 100kph will probably feel like its hardly moving. Possibly the crash happened due to driver complacency (didnt think he was going so quick due to how easy it was), but like wise said, theres nout you can do on an aquaplane, and the same outcome would probably have happened in a ford sierra. But lets face it, if James may will happily take it to its max speed, then i doubt its the most taxing thing to drive.

wisewood
07-03-07, 12:13 PM
maximum speed on a big oval test track is a bit different to maximum speed on a normal road though really.

Lee
07-03-07, 12:18 PM
Yes, but shows you how stable it is at those speeds, so you can imagine how sedate it is at less than half the speed. Induces complacency.

Stuart
07-03-07, 12:30 PM
the pics have finally turned up at work... all the sad geeky engineers are talking how the accident could have happened by overcoming the control system blah blah blah....

Bascially some chimp was driving SLOWLY (look at the lack of damage to the car), was doing something silly, the wide tyres lend themselves to aquaplaning, It ended up in a ditch... simple really.

No ammounf of bull**** about "ohh its a 1000bhp car, it does X mph, its this that and the other" can get away from being an incompetant driver.

the VX N/A is very sure footed, yet muppets manage to write them off with great ease doing far more sedate thigns than i do..... im not saying im a good driver, but i am saying they are BAD drivers.

wisewood
07-03-07, 12:39 PM
Its only fluke that you never crashed your VX with all them brown trouser moments you've had with brakes failing to work when you push the pedal.

Stuart
07-03-07, 12:57 PM
thats only happened twice in icey/bumpy conditions ;) the ABS is now turned off so it cant get in the way

whats the excess??

The owner will probably demand a 'like for like' curtasy car,we had a Ferrari in for repair and it was costing the insurance company ?1000 a week + VAT for the Bently hire car, it was going to be a minimum of 8months in repair,?32000 +VAT minimum.

They wrote it off!
