just wondering if i could get a custom inlet made by getting the ports off an sri inlet and welding them to the top part of a carb'd inlet?
would this work? and would it be expensive?
just an idea :tard:

I asked a local engineering firm, he said he would need to put a round tube into the inlet and smooth it by tig welding etc.
?400 job,Lol.

I'd have said that It'll take more making good than fabbing up a new one. A friendly TIG welder is handy for such jobs.

what the overall goal?

Right, do you know what others have done before?

You could probably cut n shut the 2 together maybe the only probelem would be the water ways! If its for competition I wouldnt have water round the inlet anyway so that may be cheaper.

If you can get the bits all ready to weld up then I know somewhere that can do it at a reasonable price. If yopu want them to do it then as lltn said your looking at a fortune as you have to pay someone to do all the timeconsuming fetling before welding.

yea i see what you mean, i was going to modify a 1300 inlet, but coline smith sent me a 1400 inlet and wont reply to my emails now.
so thats set me back a bit. thanks for the info though, i see how much it is now, bit too much lol

would it not be easier to get bigger valves in your 1300 head that you are selling, hence not having to mess about with inlet manifolds? You got a carb sorted yet?

Btw Luv2XLR8, the head your selling is a 1300 head as gary said :)

i thought it was off a 1.4 sri.

Its either a 1200 carb head or 1300 carb head. 14se(1.4sri has round intake ports(
I dont have the part number to hand for 1300 head.

Yeah thats a 1300 head for sure.

yep 1300 inlet from an astra, cavalier ot Nova, mind you will need an adpater plate and they are ?30 from weber if you dont have one.

i have an adapta plate, just need a 1300 inlet now lol coline sent me a 1400 one doh!
would i need an astra inlet or a nova one or are they the same? i know the older astra 1300 inlets were different as you could fit a down draft to them

garyc

the Mk2's are the same as the nova ones as are some of the later cav ones. its only the Mk1 astra which is different.

would it not be easier to get bigger valves in your 1300 head that you are selling, hence not having to mess about with inlet manifolds? You got a carb sorted yet?the sri head already has the big valves and has better flow characteristics as standard, as for the inlet just cut and shut and get someone to ally weld it for you. i bet it would cost me ?50 to have done, then just get the dremel out and tidy it up

Yes but its a 1300 head he has got. I would say abt 50 quid an all for a cut and shut job too.

haha sorted. when i put the 1400 inlet to the head there were other holes in the head that looked like they should match up with the inlet. ive loked at the picture of the 1400 and 1300 inlets on my thread on general chat, but the 1300 there doesnt seem to have anything matching the holes either.

is this because the 1300 astra mk2/ cav inlets are different?

All OHC inlets will physically bolt to all OHC heads.
Just the ports mis match...

cool, i'll try and get another 1300 inlet and see how it goes
