right time has nearly come to fit my 6 point cage but am just woundering about the mounting points, looks like the rear cage part will just mount to the sheel. but do i need to weld plates or anything to the sheel where the cage mounts?

and the front parts, where they go though the dash and then to the floor, i need a like box making, for the cage to bolt to, then id weld that box to the sheel, but what thickness do i get the box made out of?

cheers lew

i just used an L plate peice of metal for the front and midle hoop. you can just bolt it in, but welding it in would be much better.
what cage is it?
as for where the cage meets the rear arches i put a plate on the underside of the arch for extra srenght

not sure what cage it is tbh, got part x on that Breg SR i had, its an fia one tho, was in a rally car with msa log book etc. goes through the dash rather than around it etc, door bars, and one diaganol on the rear. will get some pics up

right where it meets the rear arches, shud i weld the plate to the under side then?

ah nice one! gives me a better idea of the rear part

but the front part on mines diferent, where it meets the floor, instead of it being flat its like an L so looks like it mounts on a box if you know what i mean

You dont need to really, But cut a 3mm plate the same size as the foot and drill three holes in the same place, then cage on the inside, Plate in the wheel archl and bolts threw it.

Same goes for the feet on the front. your call if you weld them tho. in the corners you need an L section which acts as a well base for the cage, this will need welding in

Weld it in and then tag it to the chassis. It makes a huge difference.

would the front bit not bolt to the sill part, like where the kick plates are, looks a suitable size/shape for there

dont think the sill would stick out far enough would it, not tested it yet like as just need to finish painting it

no, you are right at the start of the thread Lew. You need some box section welding in for the front legs.

Your front mounts do sit on the sills but you'll have to make up some plates(3mm thick) that follows the shape of the sills and should have a minimum area of 120cm/sq (if your using it for rallys), that will go between the cage and the sills. You'll then have to drill the exact same hole pattern in the plates as the cage mounting. Then place the plates in position(you'll have to have the cage in the car for this to get it right) and mark on the sills where the plate holes are. Then remove the cage and plates and then cut (with a holesaw) 22/25mm holes, in the sills, where the cage/plate holes are marked. Now weld nuts(i'd use M10's) behind the holes on the plate.
Now place the plate in position so that the nuts reccess into the holes in the sills and weld the plate to the sills.

The center mounts are alot easier. All you have to do is weld an angled plate, ideally with an area of 120cm/sq or bigger(again, a must if your using it for rallys), that sits under the cage mounting and also rises halfway up the sill.
The plate is then welded to the floor and sill in position. Then the exact pattern of the cage mounting is drilled through the plate and floor.

The rear mounting don't need any plates or strenghtening, so you can just drill straight through the rear arch and bolt it down.

I hope this helps

that MSA sticker only means that it has been used in motorsport prevously, im not just talking a track day either lol

as stated by Bouch, you will need to fabricate a box section with a minimum of 120cm square, by box section we mean this: http://www.poserallying.com/jam-motorsport/106build/page2.html

where the roll cage leg joins the shell floor you can see the box section fitted

Take a look at the competition build book in Stu's signature link. You should find some pics to go with Bouch's explanation.
