View Full Version : mounting harnesses
were can harrnesses be mounted to ?
i am thinking of getting some 3 point harnesses an mounting the longest part to rear seat belt mount were can the other two go (i have no seat belt mounting lugs on my subframes will this be a problem ?
what s the job of mounting eye lets (there a few ? on e bay but what do they actually do ?
mount to the original rear seat belt mouting holes, 17mm bolt, job done. the other two, one mounts into the syll, the other, ive mounted into the seat rail ;)
use the existing threaded holes in the shell
eyelets are welded to the shell, for professional clip in harnesses
i have no seat belt mounting on my subframe so will have to mount to seat rail .
cant get to threaded hole in sill as cage is in the way .
so what options do i have
mount both to seat rails or one to seat rail an buy an eye let for other side ?
where your original seatbelt went into the shell, there will be a threaded hole
if youve got buckets, using nova rails, then you need to use the 90degree angled bracket of the GM rails that the saet belt clip mounts to and bolt the harness into that

You could secure them onto the cage, with a bit of welding.
could i bolt them to the side mounts for my bucket seats would that be ok for mot ?

i bolted my centre ones through the floor of the exhaust tunnel. Put a plate underneath so that dont pull back through will pulled.

you can put them anywhere on the main shell aslong as theres an eyelet plate on the otherside (welded support plate) as far as i know

just a saftey note...you should keep the shoulder belts as close to level as possible to avoid compressing your spine in an accident or over turn
as above, and I wouldn't fit them to the seat rails either. If you are in an accident and the seat comes loose you are screwed.
Phils is the best way.

Its common to loop them over a rear strutbrace, this leads to a good angle for them, however the strutbrace must be a very sturdy and should be welded in place (professionally if you not 100% sure of your own abilities.)
If your unsure then use eyelets on the original nova mounts. Standard nova ones are mounted to the seat frames (on buckle/trans tunnel side) so i cant see why you couldnt mount them to the bucket seat frames providing they are sound and secure.

My official Corbeau subframes came with a seatbelt mounting point on the inside, so I assume they must think it's safe enough to mount to the subframe.
but they are designed for the seat belt clip to go into.
Defeats the point of having a harness otherwise. The harness is designed to keep you in place, not to keep you into the seat as such. Hard to explain my understanding of it tbh.
The harness keeps you in a set position to the car so that no extra negative weight is added to the seat rails/mounts. The stock mounts are not designed to the extents which harnesses are.

But if its not for competition purposes as long as its 'at least' as safe as the original belts there is no issue.
but if you are using aftermarket seat rails/frames then what saying they are designed as well as the original vauxhall ones?
I have had some pretty shocking seat mounts in the past whick said they could mount harnesses to, I never used them to mount the seat as they were that bad.
