Ive been offerd an engine fitted for 300 quid (including rolling road setup), just wanted to know if he was telling the truith about power and if the price was ok.

1.3 head, 1.6 bottom end, cant remember what cam, 32/34 carb,

he said he had it up to 135bhp on 40s and a 4branch

what sort of power will it run at on a 1.2 manifold and the 32/34 carb

who is fitting it mate a back street bloke or?? id say tbh if the engine is as good as it says its a half decent price. Considering that the labour rate at my place is ?46.50 + vat, and i would say that it would take a good half a day to a days work to drop your lump and fit a new 1 plus theres brakes and all the rest being setup etc etc.:thumb:

price sounds good is all is stight up, power sounds a bit high, but i maybe wroung. 1.2 manifold will be worse than the 1.3 manafold also the 3234 will not fit a 1.2. im lost are you getting it with 40's ?

when he was running it it had 40s and a 4 branch in his race nova

now it has a 32/34 as he has sold the 40s and manifold so i want to use my manifold until i get a new one(1.2 in it at the mo)

You will need a 1300 inlet.
Power sounds spot on for t40s on a 1600. You may get 90 ish bhp with your setup. Dont think you'll see much more tho, as the big valved 1600 head your replacing with a smaller valved 1300 head... And the good flowing 1600 plenum/inlet is being replaced with a single carb.

Might need measure CR first too as the 1300 head might push it up a bit.
high, should be ok tho.

Price seems alrate, quite a few hours labour, so about right.

I'm guessing the carb is used because of the cam and the 1.3 head fitted because you can't get a single carb manifold with round inlet ports for the 1.6.

The thing to me is that it all seems a bit pointless. You take a 1.6 engine which has a good, free flowing head and replace it with an inferior 1.3 head. Yes the cam will allow flow in & out of the cylinders better but it's a false economy if all the gas is bottlenecking inside the smaller ports of the 1.3 head.

Agreed /\

Altho the 1300 head isn't too bad for flow, you will be lucky to get the std gte 100bhp. As the 16sv engine has about 82bhp iirc, single carb, so your 1300 head would give a few bhp gain on that... As well as cam etc.

ok lads cheers, dont know why he has used a 1.3 head but as long as its got over 130bhp when i put the t40s on and the manifold/system on im happy

Oh sounds good just looking at my receipt i think when the car was first done it had 55's in and as i can remember it was quick it just seems a slight bit tamer with lower sidle jets but i think its me geting used to the car. Iam sure its not running right it needs the carbs rebalancing again. He sells and makes his own throttle cable kits for webber 40's he said he couldnt rememer the price but they were about 15 quid, so getting that done all day wednesday:thumb:

I found about protune cus i was looking for a rolling road in derby and there isnt one (i gave jamie there number). I rang round for ages in the yellow pages and i just couldnt find one car tuning place that would do what i wanted. Some other comapany gave me Protune's number. I had my engine rebuilt it took awhile but its really good and the john knows what hes doing, his work may not be specail but i think it is. Its hard to find a decent tuning place especailly when you wanna go down the twin carb route.
