my mates car is running a bit rough
symtoms are:
topped up coolant water after half a mile it was all gone
his heaters are blowing cold and it is smoking a bit and idleing lower than usual

i told him it is his head gasket is this right ?

his head gasket might not have gone, he might have a serious leak in a pipe or his water pump might be fucked. The heater is blowing cold becasue theres no water in the system. If he drives it with no water in the system, he will more than likely fuck the head gasket. He should get it looked at before he drives it anymore or it will cost quite a lot of wonga to get fixed.

when the car gets warm the pressure of the water builds up and the pipes expand , there could be a split in a pipe which only leaks when the pipe expands and the pressure is strong enough to push the water through the split.
