I really don't know whats up, but it is taking some uber amount of turning to get my engine to fire

it doesnt fire at all, then it starts trying to fire, then spits a bit.

once its running and its warm it runs absolutely fine

any suggestions?!

check the leads and change the spark plugs, you might as well serivice at while your at the trouble shooting stage:)

mine was like this the other day and was due to damp leads

did wonder if it was leads, cos i gave them a blast of wd the other day and cured it

it does need a service, go the oil and the filter so may as well get some plugs and leads!

cheers guys

Your bay looks to have bits in it from about 5 different engines/management systems, Lol.

Get a carb dizzy/coil/module on there! The one you have atm will be costing you power.
You dont need the map sensor etc.

What do you have the choke on when trying start it?

simon_p
22-02-07, 02:04 PM
no its still an adventure starting it on a morning!

i don't know whats what in my engine bay!!!

surely it won't be costing me that much power?

erm choke, err no linkage and hole in dashboard

i wasn't supplied with that essential extra from my nova supplier!!!

Adam

Well, i can see a Map sensor to a Spi/Mpi engine.
Half of the ecu to a GTE/Gsi engine.

A dizzy from a SPI engine, coil from spi engine.
Lol

A proper carb dizzy mechanical advances the timing over the rev range, a spi dizzy wont as its electronically controlled.

That explains hard starting in mornings then ;)

Because Somebody Said It Would Plugs Are All As They Should Be Thanks

christ so i have a real interbread engine then!!!

even when its a warm day it can be a ball ache!

people say i shouldn't need a choke on some days!?!?

can i buy a choke linkage? Also when i try starting its as if theres no spark going to the leads, ie no attempt at firing the engine

hope you understand?

Has the carb been setup for your engine?
On warm days after the engines been used for a bit etc you shouldn't need a choke.
But cold first starts in the morning you probably will.

Long live the nova is right lol

i can what looks like a 1.2 coil, and injection dizzy

it will cost you power, i had an injection dizzy too, i swapped it with my carb one, along with the module and it was loads better, before it felt like a 1 litre lol, i'd also look at the choke

ITS SOUNDS LIKE A FUEL MIXTURE PROBLEM FOR DEF DOES IT START BACK UP OK WHEN ITS WARM NOVA CARBS ARE REAL RUBBISH AND TEMPREMENTAL WHEN ITS COLD JUST HOLD THE CHOCKE LINCAGE ON WITH YOUR HAND BUT NOT FULLY.lol

simon_p
22-02-07, 02:52 PM
and how do you suggest i start the engine AND hold the choke on?!?!

i aint stretch armstrong!

Jon_nova1
22-02-07, 02:57 PM
that wont stop the advance from being sorted because it isn't there, does your car feel slow?

simon_p
22-02-07, 02:59 PM
i think its quite quick, but could be quiker

feels restricted some how

Jon_nova1
22-02-07, 03:35 PM
has the engine been converted?? maybe from a 1.2/1.3 injection to a 1.4 carb?

look at the choke, it might be stuck, the restriction feel, might be because you have no advance timing or because the choke maybe stuck in a way you cant start the engine very well and it doesn't open all the way ;)

Jon_nova1
22-02-07, 03:41 PM
oh the kit, you could get a 1.4 carbed engine, so you can get a dizzy from vauxhall or scrapyard if your lucky, maybe Ebay?? and you hold the choke open by opening your bonnet and drivers door, turn the key and use your free hand to adjust the choke ;)

you really need to get the right iginiton set up first lol

simon_p
23-02-07, 10:05 AM

Its All A Fuel Problem Mainly In The Carb Its The Choke Or The Float Sticking Is It A Manual Or Automatic Choke
