FastRoadCars have either 1m or 3m, what are people using?
I dont want to have to cut the inner cable etc as it never pulls as smoothly when you do that.

O, and also never bodge a throttle cable  Else it will fook up and jam the throttle open at 8k rpm:roll: lollol

i can't imagine you need 3 metres, 1 metre sound about right, it's only going from the pedel and straight out the B/H to the carbs.

Yeah.

But my linkage points from back to front, rather than side to side. So i'd need a slightly longer cable.

Hoping 1m will do, as thats what i've ordered,Lol.
Need to find someway to attach it to the throttle pedal now without using a pedal block.

hmm, there was a thread on mig, something about a bike brake cable, or welding. i'll have a look.

I tried two bike cables today, they worked ye, but wouldn't pull correctly(weren't smooth), and jammed the throttle open, its not nice seeing an engine you've just put back together with new cam, lifters etc going off the rev counter :eek:lol

what linkage is it?? how you mean, back to front? like the sport linkages?

Adam

Yeah a bit like the Sport linkage, but i think that used the original throttle cable and a bracket.

Same as this:-
http://i1.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/80/83/ee2a_1_b.JPG

It pulls the linkage towards the slam panel, i think thats why the cable doesn't move very smoothly, because you have to twist it at a weird angle to join the linkage.

that doesnt sound good mate aslong as its all good tho!

also iv never seen that^^^^ is that a sport linkage?

Its not the same as a sport linkage no, similar tho.
Its meant for kit cars etc where the linkage needs to sit low to avoid touching the bonnet etc. I'd rather have a side to side linkage tbh, but i have this one so i'll see if i can get it working smoothly.

Engine seems fine, it was only off the clock for a second if that, and it runs/sounds fine, engine came alive at about 2-3k rpm, when cam must have picked up, quite rapid i tell thee. And the noise is something else.
Altho it probably needs setting up to get rid of the cam "step" and to get the carbs balanced. I've balanced them for the time being using a bit of thin pipe listening to the noise in the carb trumpet, trying to get them make an identical noise lol. Seems ok.

if its a single cable, centre pull item like on the sport, use a Corsa SRi (MUST be 8v) throttle cable ;)

thats what i used on my Sport carbs :thumb:

EDIT: doesnt look like its got that ball joint thingy on the end of the throttle cable mount bit where it joins the linkage?

EDIT AGAIN: I think ive actually got a throttle cable here?

Nope its slightly different to a sport setup, that had like a bracket to hold the cable.

What cable do you have? One of the proper blue ones they sell on ebay etc?

you could always use a custom made pulley system that puts the throttle cable at a 90 degree angle? where the pulley bends the cable around take the covering of just before that so its only the wire thats on the pulley, i know this doesn't solve your length problem lol but it might help with the dodgy placement

Corsa SRi 8v throttle cable i have here

the brakcet on the carbs only holds the thottle cable, nothing else ;)

my cable snapped once as i was just leaving my town. i had to wedge a bit of bark in the linkage and give it some serious clutching to get it home which was luckily just up the road. i used a cable off my old sri which i have3 for parts although it is a bit of a bodge it worked fine and i regularily checked it for stretching/slipping and never had a problem. my main worry was not to be able to get full throttle.

The sri cable has a ball joint end on tho dont it?

How do you connect that to the carb linkage? Can you get a linkage rod to the carbs with a same balljoint fitting on? Any pics of the linkage?

remember seeing a rally car linkage break and the co driver was sitting on the bonnet controlling the accelerator while the driver was hanging out the window trying to drive!

LMAO /\

If i ever had the cable etc break i think best thing do would turn the idle speed screw up, have it idling at 3k rpm, enough to pull off etc.

thats what i mean by a bit of a bodge i just cut thye ball off and used the remaning cable, clamped it to prevent it from fraying and used a nut and bolt to tighten it up.

Ahh right i get you now.
The new cable should be here tomorrow, hopefully i will be able safely drive the car then lol
