how easy is it to get rid of faded paint ie red gone pinky

is it a simple matter of getting busy with a orbital buffer and some T-cut or is it resprayin panels ?

cheers

there is loads of paint restorers around but i cant remember the name of a certain one that is quite strong and needs car when applying as it can burn hands but its amazing, someone i kno used it on an old xr3 that was light pink after fading and it was returned to red

try some g3 cutting compound, i've had a couple of flame red gte's and the first had some badly faded panels. get some good clear polish or wax to put on after to protect the paint.
make sure you dont take too much off!

red base coat, 2k glasurit lacquer, thats the real and lasting soloution.
But yes G3 will cut it back well, bear in mind tho, how many times before has it been cut back, so be careful with the polisher.
I polished my aunt's 2k blue vectra, it look to have been already cut back a few times, going by the amount of sriwle (sp?) marks, so i used g10 or was it g8 on it and it works every bit as good as the G3 but less harsh.

If your going with compound polish, be sure to have loads of wax ready, as when the compound paste is left to dry, its a disasiter to get off. Point being do, say the bonet first with the G3, then stop and wax it. Then for example do the front wing and door, then wax it, and so on. Make sure to be out of the sunshine before doing the job

if youre using cutting paste (g3, t cut etc) take it easy, especially on the edges. This stuff does as it says, it cuts a layer of paint off the car, making it thinner. Rub enough and you'll hit primer.

Faded paint is paint thats been affected by ultraviolet light (sun) and oxidisation. Cutting it can remove the oxidisation and restore some of the colour (the stuff under the oixidised layer) but tbh if its gone pink youre best bet is to take it to a garage and get them to give it a quick respray. looking at ?300 tops for a quick topcoat (providing you prep it yourself).

You'll prob find it cheaper than that if you shop about.

You can use colour restorers but I never found them to be much cop.

Try some megs stuff. Stage 1 of the 3 stage polish is a very fine cut so doesn't chop as much off as G3 and TCut. Have a look at the cleaning link in my sig.
